Needing Push Press Advice

Hi everyone, I am not too into powerlifting, but I would like to incorporate the push press into my shoulder routine. Actually, I tried it today, and I stunk at it. It seems like I can use just as much weight when I do a standing barbell press.

Are there any tips that someone can offer me? Is it better to have a wide or narrow grip? Are your heels supposed to come off the ground, since mine were, I'm not sure if that's right though. Thanks!

Well pushpress is really not part of powerlifting. Powerlifting is the Squat, Bench Press, and the Deadlift. Pushpress is more of and explosive movement usually associated with sports like football and such. I played football and I am very familiar with push presses. Your feet should spread apart simotaneously(sp?) with the bar leaving your chest and locking out. What I mean is one foot should go foward, one should go backward, and the bar should be going up at the same time. Once the bar is locked out above your head you should bring the back foot up just like how you would stand normally. That completes the lift. Hope I helped some. Its hard to explain I could give a better explaination in person.
