my house is 54 degrees right now, should i turn on the heater yet?

I don't recommend it. I've been going without heat also. The last couple of nights have been cold as hell and I didn't sleep with a damn. I actually began to feel ill and I never get sick. The cold makes you sick by weakening your immune system. Them were some tough bastards before AC/heating was invented. They just got use to it and got diptheria and shit.

Personally, I care more about my personal comfort than the environment or a few extra dollars. I like it very cool in the bedroom, and 70 everywhere else. I will use as much heat or AC as I need in order to achieve this result.

Life is short, be comfortable.

C'mon, you're only 30 miles north of me, there's no way it could be only 54 degrees indoors, unless you've got your windows open. I've just got one space heater going right now, in my bedroom, and it's still comfortable all over my apartment.

yeah our back porch/laundry room/doorway/storage room is kindof an entropic distaster.
