My abs

Hi

my abs are currently not the way I want them to be... they seem to be too bulky, projected to the front. I´d like to have tighter, smaller abs...

what´s a good routine for this, if ANY? maybe I should stop training them at all?

I do some sort of pylates abs, few reps, and other days I do like 2 sets of 100 reps, changing it up, obliques lower, crunches, etc

Also, there´s this annoying slightly protruding belly, I don´t know why. could it be some bowel inflamation? or simply a result of training more the lower abs? I´d love to correct this!

thanx

Just don't train them anymore. That's the only way to make them smaller.

Also there are two kinds of fat, visceral and subcutaneous. The second type is what hides your muscles, sits under the skin. The first type surrounds and cushions your internal organs. Lots of it can also push out your abs in the way you've described.

So what's your rough bodyfat %?

casualbb,

actually I was thinking about sending you a PM because of your avatar.. is that you?

I could say my "dream look" would be like yours (lol), especially the abs and the biceps. I´m really not trying to be too big, and I don´t do steroids or anything.

Well, right now I am at 15%, trying to cut for summer... Last Summer I was 10% but still the area near my belly was slightly more outwards, although less noticeable, and the abs overall, although well defined, were slightly bigger than what I was aiming.

If you have any suggestions, they are all welcome of course!

thanx

Yeah that's me. Actually that's just a really good angle for me, I'm rather small... 160 @ 5'11"

I do have abs, though. That's my claim to fame.

If you have any suggestions, they are all welcome of course!

I can't think of anything I or others haven't already said. You just need some cuttin'. Also I don't train abs directly anymore. It really is just diet.

Damn Casual, me and you are around the same. 170@6' here, but also no abs. I'd probably be about the same as you if I cut down to maybe 165 or so.

How old are you man?

We´re the same height then! I´m currently 158 lbs with 15% fat. So we´re basically the same size. What´s your bf%??

I don´t consider myself a beast of nature, but I´m not skinny either, compared to a normal person I´m actually pretty well "built" I guess...

Ok, so you suggest I quit training my abs and drop my BF%?

BTW, what do you do for your biceps? I think mine are not genetically gifted :| and I need to give them a boost in size (and strength)

thanx!

19 yrs old, bodyfat...I don't know. Maybe 8 or 9? It's gone down noticeably since I started dieting 2-3 weeks ago.

For biceps I do one set of preacher curl after my compound stuff. I follow HST, it's in the sticky at the top if you want to check it out.

Looking to bulk up to around 180 this school year then cut to maybe 175. I plan on sitting there for awhile.

Not to be a dick, but if you're like 5' 11" or 6' at 158 and 15%....you're skinny.

Hell, I'm 12% at 6' and 190 and I still consider myself pretty small.

You should pack on some mass before you worry about cutting. Just my opinion. Either way, hit those heavy deads and squats, they'll help you whether you're cutting, bulking, or whatever your goal is.

If you're abs are getting too bulky and you want to cut some fat, just quit training them, drop some of the carbs out of your diet, and do some HIIT cardio. You'll be shredded in no time (Although shredded at 150 is not very impressive).

Anyway, good luck and train hard.

fastgain,

I can tell you I am not a skinny little guy, and I´m not fat either lol

I happen to have a large bone structure, and that probably adds to the impression that I am slightly bigger than I am.

My weight training has almost always been moderate to high reps as well, which doesn´t help, plus I never ate like mad to make great gains...

well I guess I can say I basically have been doing weight training for fun and fitness/maintenance!

I might try to gain some mass seriously after this summer, though... but now it´s time to cut up... I´ll see how I look and if I´m that skinny or not. :)

Thanx for the advice, I´m gonna check the HST thread... gotta shake things up a lot

thanx :)
