Legs still sore after 5 days.

Don't anti-inflamatories actually slow down or interfere with the natural healing process?

Well, anti-inflamatories are actually better taken PRIOR to the exercise because inflamation is part of the DOMS cycle (which leads to DOMS)...so if you cut out the inflamation during exercise, it prevents DOMS from even happening. But anti-inflamatories DO actually help relieve DOMS.

Does that answer your question or no? Are you asking whether you should take anti-inflamatories to stop the pain, or if you should just let it be?

Thanks, Bulldog. That pretty much answers my question. The pain I can deal with for now, but if this was to become a weekly thing then I would try taking an anti-inflamatory prior to the work out to use it as a preventative. I'm guessing a couple of hours beforehand?

Your extended soreness is proof that hard squats are a superior exercise.

Sore after 5 days....that will deminish to 3-4 days after you get used to squats. It's just that you went hard right at the "get go"

It is best to ease into hard squating over a few workouts.

Once a week squating for three hard sets of 10 will do more for your entire body than any other exercise and nothing even comes close to their upper leg/glute stimulation.

Next time do this......2-3 progressively heavier warm ups after 5 minutes of steep incline walking on the tread mill. If you choose to do 3 warm ups the first set can be a very light warm up with high reps but the next 2 need to be kept low at 5-6 controlled full reps. DON'T fatigue your legs with these sets. Rest 3 minutes after your last warm up and then do a set of 10-12 with THE MOST WEIGHT you can handle in good deep form. The sets will take a long time to complete if the effort is high. Now rest 4 minute and then try to get 10 with that same weight. Rest another 4 minutes and REDUCE the weight by 10% or so and then try for another 10-12 reps. WORK HARD...lots of deep breathing between tough reps!

DONE with Quads! Now sit against the wall for 5 minutes.
You have just worked the ENTIRE upper legs very hard..every inch of it , along with the hips, glutes and low back.

Anyone that wants to do more quad or glute work after this just simply doesn't know what very hard work is....
so don't waste valuable recuperative energy doing more quad work.

Funny enough, Ive had the same problem

My routine used to be:
Quads: - Leg Press 12, Leg Press 10, Leg Press 8, Leg Press 6, Leg Press 12 and Leg Extension 12

Hams: - Lying Curls 12, Lying Curls 10, Lying Curls 8, Lying Curls 6, Lying Curls 12, Deadlifts 12

Calves - Standing calf raiser 12, Standing calf raiser 10, Standing calf raiser 8, Standing calf raiser 6, Standing calf raiser 12, Seated calf raiser 12.

Ive been training since the beginning of may, and train legs once a week and every second week train them twice a week. Anyayws I got bored of the leg routine so I changed it like this:
Quads - Barbell Squat 12, Barbell Squat 10, Barbell Squat 8, Barbell Squat 6, Barbell Squat 12, Leg Press 12

Hams - Barbell Lunge 12, Barbell Lunge 10, Barbell Lunge 8, Barbell Lunge 6, Barbell Lunge 12, Deadlift 12

And with the second rouitne my legs were sore for days, it got a bit much , as I usually enjoy the pain - it makes me feel the muscles which I love, but this pain became so annoying. It passed over time and now when I try the second routine on heaver sets I get pain the next day but not unbearable

I think like me, you must have changed your routine and thats why your legs hurt so bad - its wierd I know but it passes - thank goodness

Now...I just know that you're gonna cripple me with these instructions! LOL Thanks. :)

MsPuddles -- The lift looks great! Congrats, girl! I hope recovery wasn't too much of a pain. It sucks being benched for 2 months - I know...

It took a full 7 days before the soreness went away. Pretty cool IMO.

Makedah, thanks! It's been a long drawn out process though...I wound up with a staph infection and my body rejected the disolvable stitches. The implants are great, the lift is not. Remember how I complained prior to surgery about how bad my boobs were? Well, even though the doctor did a pretty intense lift, it needs to be redone. He's a wonderful doctor though...it was his suggestion that we do it again, probably about another 4 centimeters. We need to wait a bit longer though...I'm still not healed from the stitch rejection and infection. Probably another 2 months and I get to go through it all over again. LOL He's not charging a cent for the second lift and he even spent 45 minutes removing a cyst and didn't charge me anything. We just had that done on Friday and we're trying out a different kind of stitch. So far, no problems. If this works fine, that's what he'll use for the lift and next yrs. tummy tuck! Even with all the problems I've had, I'm still much happier now than I was before. :)

Sorry you had complications :( My body kicked out one dissolveable stitch (it looked like a grain of rice), and the nurse missed 2 of the ones you're supposed to remove :lmao: So, the doc says that they'll "work their way out" over the years.

I didn't know you got implants! Was that always the plan or did you decide on them later (I've been absent from the boards for a while) Good luck on the 2nd op. You are a real trooper to go through recovery all over again. :D
