Dönner , with a minor difference, means also "Thunder"... anyway,

Donner: Lots of meat, in a pita bread, with some tzaziki and veggies (lettuce, onions, tomatoes).

Stuff is Überfilling and yummy.

Full name is a Döner Kebab, AKA "Shawarma" in some places.. however, due to the Inmense Turkish population in Germany, the Döner is nowadays more popular here than the Würst...

From wikipedia

Döner kebab, literally "rotating meat", is a sliced lamb or chicken loaf slowly roasted on a vertical rotating spit. It is similar to gyros, shawarma and Taco al pastor. Döner kebab is popularly best known served in pita bread with salad but is also served on a dish with a salad and bread or French fries on the side or used on Turkish pizzas called pide or "kebabpizza". Take-out döner kebab or shawarma restaurants are common in some parts of Europe. Döner Kebab is said to be the best-selling fast food in Germany, Poland and comes close in the popularity stake-outs in France, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Australia. Take-out gyros is quite popular in the United States where it is usually beef and lamb, shawarma is available in ethnic neighborhoods but döner kebab is mostly unknown outside of places like New York City.

Some kebab connoisseurs will also point out that it contains every food group for a healthy meal and lifestyle. It has bread (cereals group), cabbage and lettuce (vegetables group), tomatoes (fruit group), creamy herb sauce (dairy group), oil (fat group) not to mention the döner meat (meat group), although one might note some imbalance in the relative ratios (notably, the fat, meat and vegetable groups.)

awww mannnnnn!

Looks tasty until I see that giant meat stick again!

I used to go to a pizza joint back in the dorm/college days and they had this meat that would just sit out 24/7 like that behind the counter and they'd shave it off when nessesary. :worried: Sanitary? I don't know...gross? To me, yes. I think they used it for mostly "gyro" type sammiches.

Do "nicer" places take care of their meat sticks? (lol... NO pun intended damnit)

yep, they don't last that long here, normally a couple of hours... rotation is HUGE man. You won't find a Döner place here where that stick sits there for hours on end.

Besides, food laws are VERY strict here, so hygiene is a no-brainer

Oh, ok...that's good then; I'd be up to try one when I venture over there :)

I'm sure the meat stick at the pizza joint has been there for years :worried:
