Help Me Lose my Belly!!

I am desperate to eliminate the fat from around my midsection. My main goal is to gain muscle all over my body, however my main focus is definitely my midsection.....I'm pretty petite with the exception of the fat on my stomach. What is the most effective workout and diets that would get me started in the right direction?

Suggest you start by checking out the Are you new to EF women's board - START HERE thread & also the TOP THREADS - MUST READ sticky at the top of the board.

You'll get asked to list whatever is your current diet & training routines in detail (this is all described in the Are you new ... sticky), and also can you list your stats - height, weight, age.

The short answer is that you cant' do spot reduction so whatever part of your body you don't like more than the other parts really doesn't matter - you have to lose across your body at the same rate. Usualy the parts we hate the most are hips / thighs / ass / waist -- that's because we're female and we have estrogen. Estrogen drives preference for depositing fat in those areas as a survival mechanism to give greater protection to a fetus & to store bodyfat to help that fetus grow. Of course this sucks if you aren't pregnant and aren't going for that pregnant look

So what you need to do is get your diet & training set up and run them consistently and just let your body do the work. A great diet & training program is the Shadow Project -- lots of girls here have done it in the last 2 yrs & some are on it now - e.g. Florencia and a few others. There's a sticky on the top of the board for it and also links from both the stickies I previously mentioned.

Another source that is a great introduction to how & why's of diet / nutrition and training is Bill Philips' BODY FOR LIFE book -- excellent intro to how your body works and how nutrition works. The diet is very flexible and the training & cardio are also very efficient and effective. You may even be able to find that book at your local library.
