GVT on a diet?

growin'

New member
I have been training westside style for the last couple months while dieting. I have had awesome results: zero muscle loss, substantial strength gain, and steady fat loss.

I would continue this training, but I have started getting injured more often lately. I am considering switching to something like German Volume Training while dieting to give my joints and tendons a break from the heavy weights.

What do you guys think? Would this be too demanding while cutting? I have only done it while bulking, and had great results. I am not on any gear either.

Thanks

Sure thing, here's a basic routine. You use a weight you could get 20 reps with, but you do 10 sets of 10 reps instead. The first 5-6 sets are cake, then it gets hard.....really hard. You stick to compound movements that recruit alot of muscle fibers as well. I have found this program very usefull in packing on lean pounds. The pumps are insane too as all exercises are done as alternate supersets ie: one set of bench, rest 90 seconds, one set of chins, untill all sets are done.

Day One
A1. Dumbbell Bench Press (10x10)
A2. Pulldowns (10x10)
B1. DB Shrugs (3x12)

Day Two
A1. Squats (10x10)
A2. Leg Curls (10x10)
B1. Calf Raises (3x12)

Day Three
A1. Incline Dumbbell Curls (10x10)
A2. Dips (10x10)
B1. Laterals (3x12)

Of course, I would have to modify day two due to my knee/hip injuries. But overall, you just use lighter weights and higher volume.

I gotta tell ya, while I'm all for giving your joints a break from the heavy stuff, I'm just not a big believer in volume training. For me, I see more benefit in taking a week off before I'd go on a workout like this for any length of time.
