"Ghede goes for 6%"... the journal, May 1 2006

THe only diff between figure & fitness is the routine portion, otherwise they do exactly the same poses for the "swimsuit rounds". Generally I see figure competitors getting downjudged if they dont' have really capped delts. The lats aren't used in a full on lat spread but just sort of a wide shoulder rear standing stance. But if you look at those girls even the proportions are getting weird. They are getting thicker in the waist, you can see the huge lat size even from the front, the delts are getting nutty by they don't have thickness in the arms or a bigger quad sweep. It just seems weird to me. The long, lean look is gone. If you can't define what is "the extreme" for the competition judging criteria, then you will get everything up to that. The "ideal" will never be completely clear. In BB you go for size, thickness, fullness and overall symmetry- its the whole package. In figure you either are supposed to have something soft & feminine - which to Ghede's point - why bother? Its a T&A show at that point. Otherwise they only emphasize certain aspects like the big delts & a six-pack. Muscle anywhere else you get marked down on. So what do the girls do? Go & develop a set of linebacker shoulders and the rest is ignored. Its all very weird & if they get selective about what should & shouldn't be developed, then you end up w/ these contrived physiques. It is all very weird. I would agree w/ Ghede on encouraging serious competitors to go into BB, but the barriers to entry are lower for figure and they dont' have to get into the "FBBs are disgusting, I'd never bang a girl who looked like that" crap. But also, you do have to come to the stage w/ some muscle -- BB is not for the girl who just lost a pile of weight & wants to compete. I think people who come to the stage for BB and arent' prepared to compete in BB are an insult to the other competitors who have a solid number of years of development and muscle maturity going for them.

Precisely why i was so distrubed by, and please pardon the descriptors, bellies that were hanging over suit edges and 'glutes' that were litterally shaking and shimmy-ing as the competitors left the stage: not but few were this bad off, but still, the overlying feel was not postive on those aspects of the event.

There was one guy in the Super heavies that had ZERO abs. none. not flat, just FAT. that kind of pissed me off, shit, i am more vascular than that by yards and i was sitting in the audience drinking a feckin latte!

Maybe the shows quality might be enhanced by some entry requirements: like, you have to pass a pre judging for the pre judging. :)

I think Bodyrock is part of the problem. You would've been flabberghasted at the Jr. Nationals. That is one of the highest quality shows I've ever seen.

lol... dang ... jello on stage *shudders*

*Enter Ghede*

Does his posedown, tilts head back in snobby fashion *what beotch* and walks back to his seat to finish milky latte :)

Sassy... wow @ the fitness competition link u posted... they look like Mini almost fully developed BB'rs

Sasss: I need to see better quality shows. Clearly. Much higher caliber stuff out there, for sure.

i've never been to a show....but have always wanted to go to one and check it out even if i don't know anyone. where would i find this info for the nyc/hoboken area?

ghede what up man? been like 6 days since you posted anything...

I think this is a good thing. I think folks need to concentrate on accomplishing goals and hitting the end game instead of doing commentary 1/2 way through
Como? Mind clarifying that for me please?

I'm curious to hear his opinion on logging and keeping track of one's progress as well. It seems to help ALOT of people here...
