Alpha Lipoic Acid... man o man... i take this shit on carb up days... i swear for 2 days i feel like my muscles are going to explode. I've tried carbing up w/o it and it's no where near tha same feeling.

I muscles get soo freakin full and super HARD, it's ridiculous.

I take around 1250mgs on carb up days.

P.s. i've read many times on this board that it also helps the liver , much more than milk thistle or tha like.

P.P.S... Cheapest sourcec of ALA - DPSNUTRITION.COM
NOW FOODS brand 250 mg 60 caps for like 20 bucks or so.

Take 5 caps on carb ups , it'll last you 12 carb ups,, (that's about 3 months).

if anyone else knows an even cheaper source , let me know. thanks.

If you don't mind making your own capsules, beyond-a-century.com sells the powder for $18 for 50 grams, which is a HUGE savings.

ALA exposed to light or oxygen does something to the ALA that makes it much less effective. So imagine creatine mixes w/ ALA in it... it's practically worthless.

ALA use for keto diets is old news.

1.2-2.0g on Carb-up days is what is generally used.

I've written quite a ew posts on ALA on the A-board.

Its also the ony liver protectant capable of REVERSING
liver-damage.

DPSNutrition btw IS NOT THE CHEAPEST.

www.kilosports.com sells 1000 100mg tabs for $70.

Godspeed

I'm on Protein Power (ketogenic).

I use ALA to help me get into, or stay in, ketosis. Even after a major screw up, ALA will get me back into ketosis in about 12 hours (usually takes about 3 days).

I found ALA at Walgreens, of all places, bottle of 60 caps of 100 mgs for like $5.49. I need to go stock up.

hey that sounds like a bargain i'm going to have to check out walgreens. It's hard to find specials and bargains on ALA because it's kind of expensive. My muscles do feel harder and fuller w/ it also.

No, that's NOT so good. The one's I got there were 100 mgs. I only do about 200-400 per day, and not every day, so it's a bargain for me.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Risky... GOOD GOD MAN! - that beyond century web site.... are they legit??? some of tha prices are fucking unbelievable..if they are legit then i think i shall be ordering from them once a month. Fucking great.

thanks bro.

I have ordered several products from Beyond-a-Century
and as far as I can tell they are legit, but then again I didn't order any products that are that strong that I would immediately notice a difference. I AM, however, sold on their herbal antioxidant powder, and use their BCAA's and glutamine as well. I just capped some of their ALA to use for my TKD which I start next week. I'll let you know.

What does it do to your body to help you get into ketosis so quick? Does it act as insulin??

My concern with glucose disposal agents has and always will be their inability to distinguish between fat and muscle cells. If someone has proof that ALA, Insulene, or Glycemet is in fact a "smart" supplement, then please post it.

However, I will say that if someone is considerably lean, then there might be some value to adding these agents on cheat or refeed days. In that circumstance the persons physical makeup would make the decision for the substance by giving it many more surfaces on myocytes than adipocytes to express it's effects.

I do not think any of these substances are a good idea in anyone who has high or moderate body fat levels, because again there are too many fat cells around for it to push the nutrients into.

i'm not exactly sure if ALA pushes nutrients into fat cells, i've never heard of that before. I know it pushes protein and carbs into the muscles though.

Yes beyond-a-century is legit. They just have good prices. Been in the supplement game a while now... i got to cut all the corners i can or else it will get unbelieveably expensive.

Yes, gy is correct in that is promotes glucose uptake in both muscle AND fat cells. ALA increases the number of receptors (GLUT4) on the surface of the cells, therefore allowing for more glucose to be taken in to both. That is why he mentioned it not being a "smart supplement" that will allow more glucose to be shuttled into the muscles and not the fat cells.

Hey gy, if i remember correctly, a few months back you mentioned that you were involved with studies involving the use of ALA (on the Anabolic board), am I correct or wrong? If so, is there anything exciting (or not exciting for that matter) you have learned?

Hey I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips on Keto diets? I have recently just got back into lifting and eating clean recently and about 2 weeks ago went on a low carb diet (60%fat, 40% protein). In the past I did it the Atkins way and never did a carb up, and I also have tried it the CKD way. I noticed I lost fat both ways, more the atkins way, but also more muscle lost that way too. Do you think for someone like me who puts on weight easily (muscle and fat) it would be smarter to do it the Atkins way, or have many of you lost a lot of fat even though you do the carb up every weekend? And I've never used ALA, is it definitely worth getting?

Question here: If ALA is pushing carbs into muscle and FAT cells, then wouldn't it be counterproductive if you're trying to lose FAT?????

I don't beleive in this stuff. I look at how much you guys are paying. It's so rediculous...Looking at my Glucophage bottle, I pay a $1.50 for 30 tabs at 850mg. I LOVE GREECE.

You wanna talk about not being able to walk 'cause your calves feel like there gonna burst. I've taken 1 Glucophage 2 hours before a carb-up and it's amazing..just deplete glycogen from muscles first i.e. no-carbs.

It makes me sick to my stomach that you guys pay so much for this supplement. It's a GREAT anti-oxidant, and that's all it should be used for.Geez.Ouch.

rediculous, I meant to type ridiculous.

You guys can't get Glucophage over the counter in the U.S., I realize this.

I'll be coming to the u.s shortly and I'll see if I feel the same way if I take ALA.

This should be interesting..

Would I be allowed to bring 14 tablets of Glucophage w/ me to the states? Just 14, that's all I'll need.

No I don't have a prescription.
It's WAY less than a 30 day supply.
It's not an AS.

tell them you're diabetic and you should have no problems.

I'm still wondering if ALA will make you fatter by pushing these nutrients into the fat cells?????
