Funniest/Stupidest advice you hear at the gym???

Saw a kid doin squats. Had a belt. Had the safety bars in the power rack up to his hips, at least. He asked a dude for a spot, when he squatted down like 1/3 (if that) the proper way ...

girl: "I don't lift weights b/c I'll get all big and muscular". I hate that one so...so much

"I'm doin like 20 reps per set to get totally cut up."

I hate it when guys smaller than me try to give ME advice, as if I don't know what I'm talking about.

"bench presses build your chest, shoulders, tris, and bis"

"I don't bench press. It doesn't work for me". This guy has a puny chest, and wont bench b/c he's embarrassed that he can't do over 135.

"you're truly the man when you can do a one arm pullup. That's what I'm striving for"

"I'm tryna get a six pack. I do 500 situps a night."

If you can do a one arm pull up, you ARE the man. I heard Franco Columbo could do em. I can barely hang by one arm, let alone pull myself up. You'd need a crazy strength to weight ratio

franco could also deadlift 750lbs with no straps and he always weighed less than 200lbs. (not bad for a powerlifter turned powerlifter)....... i have seen 2 pictures of him doing this.

but his back workout always started with 10 sets of 25 reps of behind the neck pullups.

:alien: WOW!!!

so the one arm pullups doesnt surprise me.

The reason why I said chest, shoulders, tris, and bis, is b/c a lot of people, for some reason, think that bench presses work the biceps.

I think that the one-arm pullup is a showoff move. I mean, nobody is realistically going to do sets of one arm pullups, they're just showing everybody in the gym that they can do them. I can do a one arm pullup with the slight assistance of my other hand grabbing my wrist. But I certainly don't do them for reps.

Aunt Ethel at the gym: "I am doing more housework now, and I thinnk the vacuum cleaner is helping bring out my triceps"

Here's a few:

"You should wear a weight belt for all your lifts."

"If you drop the weights like that again i'll have to ask you to leave." This was said by some scrawny guy that worked there, after i had just finished a set of dumbell flat bench with the 100 lb dumbells.

"Isn't it dangerous to lift that heavy?"

Ooh, ooh, I have another one!

"Doing squats like that will 'rip up' your knees."

What kind of squats? Ass-to-ankles! His version was a 1/4 squat - I'll keep deep squatting, and we'll see who has problems first.

Here is a good one. Its on the nutritional side but.... I had one guy tell me that If I wanted to get big, i needed to go to McDonalds everyday and eat 2 big macs for lunch and two big macs for dinner. that is over 1000 calories each serving. And make sure you eat every last fry, and i guarantee you'll get big. He was serious too. and not talking you'll get big meaning fat, he meant big muscles. He tried over and over to convince me that those were the calories i needed to take in. Side note.... he's never achieved anything in the gym. 3 years and still looks the same. Fatter if anything. I don't think he's ever trained for longer than a month before he would get sick.
