Fiber = Free Food?

I was told that you can basically eat as much fiber (i.e. high fiber cereal) as you want without gaining weight??

I heard that your body can't digest it AND that it does not effect insulin levels which in my mind equates to a "free food".

I am on a serious cutting diet so I don't want to blow it by eating a couple bowls of Fiber Cereal before bed if the information I heard is incorrect.

Any answers??

That would be true, if the cereal was made up exclusively of fiber. Any other carbs, proteins, or fats in the cereal still count as calories.

true, fiber is composed of cellulose which is indigestible (our body can't break the beta 1,4 linkages). your body can't metabolize it and hence you won't gain weight due to its intake. anyhoo, since it's indigestible, it's a very potent laxative! something to think about before you have a couple of bowls before bed!

Thanks guys!

The USRDA of Fiber is 25 Grams

A bowl of All-Bran Cereal has 10 Grams of Fiber!

Also has 4 Grams Protein, 1 Gram Fat, and 13 Grams Other Carbs.

Get yourself some psyllium husk powder - 100% fiber....two teaspoons between meals will keep you feeling full dudes.

Usually available at health food stores, etc., make sure it doesn't have any added sugar.

fiber is either soluble (digestible) or insoluble (indigestible)
