diet for my mom!

New member
hello everyone, i'm here to make an inquiry on behalf of my mom!!

well, the scoop is, my mom decided to lead a healthy way of life, which translates into she wants to drop some fat. it all started when she told me one of her girlfriends got on some diet and was losing weight rapidly, so i guess mom got a little jealous and now wants the same thing. upon inquiring which 'diet' specifically her girlfriend was i wasn't much surprised to find out it was a crash diet of basically no food (will women do anything for looks?!~). so i decided i was gonna help my mom, and ensure she drops weight in a HEALTHY way, and that she's able to maintain it afterwards. but what kind of diet?! CKD?! or something designed more specifically for women?!

she is:
39 years old
5'6" 164 lbs
and just desperate to look good...

any help is appreciated, and i'm not greedy on KArma either if the advice is sound!!~

thank you!
~~peace!

If your mom desires a healthy lifestyle beginning with her diet, then the smart move would be to not go for quick fixes. Have her begin to log in her food intake. That's actually where she should start.

Also, if she's been eating "her way" for 39-years, that means that 39-years of change that ain't gonna happen overnight. Or within a week. Start small. After a week of logging in her diet, check out what she eats. Make small changes. Does she eat breakfast? If not. Have her start there. Is she more active earlier in the day? Make sure she's eating more earlier in the day, less as the day progresses.

Small changes at first can actually make a huge difference for newbies.

Also, here's an article that may provide some help: www.t-mag.com/nation_articles/172food.html

I think it's great that you want to help out your mom! I hope this helps.

wowo great!!~ karma to you
cool article also...crisp, clear, cogent!!

also, is there a way i could possibly motivate my mom do some cardio (start with light), because the moment i mentioned the word CARDIO she said she's ready to give up 'healthy lifestyle and good looks'...

me myself, i'm a runner, run 6 miles 5 days a week and i love it...can i do something to make her like at least walking/jogging?! any help on motivation?!

also i'm planning, based on that article and my own diet, to design a diet for my mom of healthy foods in 6 meals...but how do i calculate the calorie intake, given she's been having very bad food habits ( breakfast in the morning + dinner in the evening of some damn salads and fruit, no protein, no fat :( ) and that her metabolism is very sedentary due to her listless and pallid lifestyle as of late

also i've been contemplating some fat burners, but seeing how their value in boosting metabolic rate is nominal i think she could do on a triple shot espresso/green tea (hehe)?! any metabolic boosters out there with no/mild side-effects that you would recommend (i'm really concerned with safety here)?!

thank you in advance..

If your mom doesn't enjoy walking/jogging, it'll be rather difficult to get her to even try those activities out. See, I only do what I like. I'm sure I'm no different than other people in that respect. And I also don't enjoy running.

For you, consider HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). Try sprinting. Or a run/sprint combo. You may have hit a set point for your body with all your running, so the next step would be HIIT. Try this before resorting to thermos (fat burners). I don't know what you've been doing for weight training. Hopefully it's a routine that compliments all that running. Something like a 3-day routine that incomporates compound movements in the 8-10 rep range and you do go relatively heavy. If not, something you should consider as well.

For your mom, don't have her resort to any supplements until her diet is in order. Supplements are just that: supplement what's missing from the diet. Right now, she just needs to get her eating habits together.

Look into what your mom likes to do. Her interests. Would she consider taking part in fitness/wellness classes at a local community center? How about yoga? Pilates? There are plenty of options for people out there to get fit.
