deadlift question?

does it matter whether you use a mixed grip or overhand grip on deadlifts? i use over hand usually but i decided to use mix after reading about deads and how thats proper. it wound up hurting my arm and causing me more trouble on the lift. is it a bad thing to use overhand? should i stop using overhand and jsut keep working on the mix grip.:fro:

If you can lift it with a overhand grip then use a overhand grip. Mixed is normally used when you can't hold it overhand.

I do most all of my warm ups with an overhand grip. I recently deadlifted then SLDL'd 503 with an overhand grip on a bent bar...lol.

When it counts...I use a mixed grip.

thanks for the replies every article i read was saying use mix so i was worrying that i was doing something wrong.:fro:

use the overhand grip for as long as you can until you get to the stage where your grip gives out before your back does. This way you get a good forearm workout as well.
