as many of u peeps know i am currently in college. im a confused mess so i decided to burden u all with my own personal dilema--ooohhhhh god luv me ;) i would like to have a career some way related to health/fitness but im not sure of all my options or what kind of careers are out there. i could study nutrition and exercise sciences but what the hell do u do with that degree once u have it:confused: i am not getting any help from the nutrition deparment at my school.... they're too busy sticking their heads up their asses at the current moment:mix: i could take our dietician program but im not sure if i would like to do that. im not the sit in a hospital and make diets for people all day type of gal. is that what they do or have i been misinformed!?!? anyway..... does anyone make a living in the health/fitness industry or have any input here for lil lost KB grl:bawling: . If u have a career in this field and went to college...what did u study? thanks for any words of wisdom.... i luv u guys:bigkiss:

you could become a nutritionist, or a personal trainer although In many cases trainers are not all that qualified to help other people look good.

yes i have thought about that.... but i think i would like to go a little further than a personal training certificate. i think its great and i could actually do that while going to school beacuse i just need a certification. I would like to take advantage of my schooling ....so maybe the nutritionist idea is the way to go...im just not so sure what nutritionists do and how to make it an active job. i know my old trainer had a nutritioni degree so she charged more $$$. She didnt do squat for me:( thanks for ur input!! much appreciated :D

KB...look into the National Strength & Conditioning Association...

With a degree in Exercise Science, like I am currently pursuing, they offer certification in fitness training or strength training. Their certificate will open many doors for you in the work force. And they send out a monthly job listing. Some Jobs that are offered only require that you have your NSCA Certification as it requires a Bachelors Degree before you can apply to take the test. Any questions just ask.

KB,

A major in nutrition will yield the opportunity to become a nutritionist or registered dietician. They can work for themselves, but usually start out with Wellness Centers, hospitals, large fitness clubs, the government, colleges and universities (as instructors), etc. A major in that field can also take you to medical school. I believe the residency for MD in nutrition is 3 years, but don't quote me on that.

Exercise science will help get you to graduate school;) Work can be found any place that requires research in that field (i.e. schools). You can be a coach for a team, become a personal or trainer, but the best thing to do with this degree is to go get a PhD in exercise physiology. That will give you more credibility and will allow you to work in larger institutions. I new a fella who did the same thing and openned up his own Gold's Gym. He then sold it a few years later for several millions. You can lead an entire staff as athletic director of a college or government facility. Of course you can instruct as a professor.

good luck

thanks poohbear!!! havent seen u in a while around here...u must be pretty busy with ur new baby...hey how IS ur lil baby... i cant remember his sweet lil name but i know it was adorable..damn it.. its on the tip of my tongue too:confused:

i live in NY :bawling: . its not fun!! im splittin within the next year for sure... no more big city livin for me!!!

KBgrl, what school do you attend? I am graduating after this spring with a nutrition degree, and I will graduate the following fall with a degree in food science.

I'll probably start out doing Clinical, but eventually I want to get my Phd and do research and possibly teach. The food science part is really interesting too, and it really broadens your choices of careers. I have really taken to the likings of the whole food chemistry and analysis field. I would also like to get a degree in biochem later on down the road as well. Any way you go, any job you partake in will more than likely be cake.
