Carb of choice.........

brown rice isnt a good substitution imo... limited amount of nutrients and high GI... not much better than white rice in actuallity...

there are some reasonably good rices.. i believe its some kind of "long grain" whatchamacallits....

the stats I quoted were for long-grain cooked brown rice. really? brown rice not good for a carb source for BBers? damn.. never heard that before

Here's a couple GI figures...

Rice, brown 79
Rice, white 83
Spaghetti, durum 78
Yam 73
Sweet potato 77
Potato mashed 100

Notice how the GI of spaghetti is actually lower than that of the rices and the sweet potato... imo, they are all bad for someone dieting.... when used as a bulking tool I find them to be quite efficient (and the yams/sp contain some good minerals)... but i would never touch any of them while trying to cut.

but didn't we figure on another thread that the GI of an individual food is not as telling as the GL of an entire meal.. and that since brown rice has 4x the fiber of white rice it was better than most carbs?

I see what you are saying though.

You'd have to eat a ton and with nothing else, in order for it to cause any type of spike whatsoever, so, protein's post was irrevelevent..........I know a ton of dudes who use brown rice as their carb source all the way up to the week of the show.......best one out there for cutting...............

just because you "know a ton of dudez" isnt a good arguement....

we're are talking about an optimal carbohydrate source and rices, potatoes, and processed grains are not it (atleast for cutting)!

Juve mentioned some goods ones (save the bananas for PW) and berries are also one of the best fruits out there. The hardest part is finding them in season!

And to address the GI of an entrie meal... Yes it is lowered depending on what you have eaten, and yes the resulting spike is also lowered, but it is also drawn out. There was some study done where some subjects had pizza or some high GI carb sorce and the pizza eater had nearly the same insulin levels, but they were high for about 3 hours longer that the other group. With that said, I still would never eat high GI carbs by themselves as that contributes to a host of other problems.

lol, youre an idiot man... you make a thread about something and want opinions about it.... then when someone gives you a different opinion than yours you get your panties in a twist... well ya know what? if youre not going to have an open mind, dont post next time and just go along on your merry way.

thank you.

stop the flames guys... lots of sites have varying glycemic index stats..

I said I wasnt going getting into a pissing contest and/or revert to name calling. I've seen enough posts by this kid to firmly believe that his knowledge of this game is very elementary.....to rip long grain brown rice, oats, yams, (all the carbs of choice for 99% of bodybuilders around the wrold) is ludicrious....I just hope he doesnt give out info. that someone might adapt into their theory.....

and I wasnt looking opinions, I was looking for nutrient info comparison of yams vs. brown rice....both of which are SOLID! :mix:

jk, have you posted any kind of fact EVER? And no, "I know 20 bigillion dudes that..." isn't factual in the least bit. That is called "anecdotal evidence" and most of the time is due to a PLACEBO EFFECT or an ACCEPTED MAINSTREAM IDEOLOGY, not very factual at all to say the least...

I atleast try to back what I say with reference from GI Tables (for example) and elementary Bio/Chem knowledge; which is obviously much more than you have.

So before you go and criticize ME, take a look at yourself and how much you contribute (or don't) and what you actually bring to the board.

You never begin to suprise me... another ignorant statement... how many bodybuilders is that again? :D

I know for myself, I cannot eat these types of foods and get lean. And I am sure there are other people like me out there. So enough with the blanket statements - open your eyes, open your mind.
