Bananas!!!!!!!!!!!

JKurz1

Banned
This is the one and only food (ok, and maybe dairy) that I am absolutely TORN over. Pretty funny when you think of it as it's only a friggn banana, but I've heard so many negatives about bananas promoting fat gain. I could deal with it if they offered a benenfit aside from a little potassium, but then all I hear they do is fill up liver glycogen...........what the frick is the deal?>??

Good fruit? Or fat gain?

Well for the longest time now I would have said no, but after reading this article: http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/doesfruitmakeyoufat.html I would have to say yes, depending on how much you consume.
To pretty much sum up the main point of fruit and fat gain, it all depends on how much fruit you eat. When fructose is consumed it's only used for refilling liver glycogen(which I'm sure you know). if your liver glycogen is full, then yes, it will be converted fat and thus being stored in adipose(fat) tissue. but the thing is that liver glycogen can be used for energy through out the whole body where muscle gly. can only be used for muscle. So it really depends on how much you consume combined w/ other foods you eat and energy you expend.

I'm talking about eating 1 medium banana once a day, after an am cardio session, first thing in the morning with oats and cottage cheese.............

I've been able to consistently lose approximately 1 lb. of fat weekly with only moderate cardio while eating fruit. I would eat a banana, strawberries, blueberries, and fruit preserves every day. As long as it is in moderation, fruit will not fatten you up. However, I'd imagine that getting BF% to lower than 6-7% may reqire cutting out the sweet stuff. Bananas are "supposedly" a low GI food even though it is a fruit.

Interesting..........so i meal #1, you'd reccomend them....especially after cardio? Do they truly have any positive effects?

the 1 banana after cardio would be good because you weren't doing strenous activity in which muscle glycogen would have been used, but instead your liver glycogen was used. The banana will help to refill what was used.

good theory haus......still a little up in the air though.......why waste cals on filling liver gly? Would bumping the protein be more benefitial?

act. kruz, I read on another site up to 3 hrs. after exercise, when fructose was consumed, compared to glucose, fat burning was like 38% when on a normal or increased cal. diet, but they were about the same, when on a reduced cal. diet. i'm trying to find the site now. If I was you I would up the oats for carbs and not the protein.
