Anyone vegetarian?

I know that I may be in left field my asking this question....

But is there anything to substitute the meat/fish/eggs in a clean diet with something that is non-meat or non-animal product?

I'm a vegetarian cycling into a vegan and I am really trying to avoid animal products. The protien shakes that I use for 2 out of 6 of my meals in a day or soy protien based...but I can't get all of my protien from that, right?

Ugh.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out. I am 5'2 150 looking to lose around 20 lbs.

not a vegetarian. but may be able to help.

Quorn is an option, though only a few of their products are vegan. (actually none available in the US, though most are what could be considered minimal departures)

as a note- IMHO most vegan diets are extremely unhealthy. Lacto-ovo vegetarian diet can be very healthy. (though dont adhere to this either)

Beans and other legumes (like peanuts) are a good source of protein, although not comparable to meat. Seitan is another option. There are meatless products like "chicken" patties, nuggets, burgers, etc on the market but they can be pricey. TVP (texturized vegetable protein) is a grain you soak in water & it resembles ground beef.

Personally, I used to be a vegetarian, but it was too costly and I wasn't getting the protein I needed, so I went back to eating meat.

Another thing -- if you are truly committed to being Vegan -- you need to watch EVERYTHING you eat as A LOT of products are made using animal by-products. You might want to do a search for a vegetarian online board where they can help you out.

Respect to you and good luck. I wish I had stayed a vegetarian and might go back to it one day.

Here is what I used to try to eat all the time before I went back to meat, and these foods contain a fair amount of protein
Tofu
Black beans
chick peas
sesame seeds (Tahini) - has lots of calcium
soya - there are so many types
some bread can be good

try to always mix up a different type of soya or tofu into whatever you eat.
I have a friend who has sandwiches with raw tofu inside...

There are probably more options out there also.

You guys suck.
If you eat meat and feel fine about it you would have no need to mock vegetarianism with immature comments like that. Maybe you are feeling guilty?
Just understand that most vegetarians think that meat is murder. So you are mocking this murder. Don't agree, fine, but don't mock. It is immature, ignorant and fucked up.
Makes me think something is wrong with you guys.
If only everyone in the world were to understand that animals can feel pain and mass production of living beings is wrong, then maybe we would also treat each other better.

In my opinion eating meat is WRONG. But right now I ignore this and eat it anyways. I don't have the need to mock vegetarians though. I have only respect for them, it is very hard in this day and age to eat veggie and stay healthy. If I had more self disciplin I could still be a veggie and I hope to go back one day.

Again, do what you want but don't mock vegetarians. It is such a tactless and ugly thing to do, do you realize this??

I think most people realize it, they just don't care.

Besides, wouldn't all of the extra mice and snakes that get killed by farm equipment harvesting all of the extra grain that vegetarians eat count as "murder" too?

Of course, technically it can't be murder since, according to Webster, murder is defined as: the unlawful premeditated killing of a human being. Baaa, at any rate, its just good-natured ribbing. It's not like we aren't willing to help out anyone looking for it. :)

save the snakes and mice, eat a chicken
