Any women bench press their bodyweight?

Yep...I don't bother with it much, but every once in a while my husband will point out a thread to me that he knows I'll find interesting or will feel strongly about...

yes indeed...sometimes i dont have the energy to respond to certain threads....just looking at them reminds me of an ascent on Mt.Everest...

Yep - thanks for posts/replies... i only wondered if anyone felt as i do and i'm sure there are many. It remains for me a mental struggle. I could say *uck what other people think - but really its me thats doing the thinking. When I'm at the gym lifting, catch site of myself and i look really muscular i'm happy - then get ready to go out and can't get my damn leg in my jeans 'cause they're gettin too big - well, there's a part of your everyday stuggles. Accepting oneself is sometimes more difficult than it seems.

All great posts and thanks to PBR and Wend for providing me some things to think about.

Pants are definitely not cut for bodybuilders, but for folks with skinny legs.

I've got a great pair of lowriders that are getting tight in the quads, though they hang off of my hips. My husband soon is going to have to have dress pants custom made.

As inconvenient as it is, I still don't want to go back to the physique I used to have. Not only did I have to struggle to keep from getting fat when I didn't carry much muscle, but even at my thinnest, I couldn't get rid of the cottage cheese on my thighs and butt.

Plus, I just love being STRONG.

It is hard, though, when the images that we see held up in the media as beautiful are so different from the muscular physique. Fashion models who are nothing but skin and bones, actresses with skinny-fat bodies...

Here's a great looking book, in case you haven't seen it. I think I want to get this for Mother's Day...

The Women by Bill Dobbins

(I love that silver bikini...)

Great Book Wend....have seen it....the contents however, come with a heavy price-tag....truely...

I remember the time when I was first starting out in lifting. I'm a guy and I was benching 175lbs. This cute girl came over to the bench next to mine. She was probably around 5'2'' and maybe 125lbs (all muscle though). She threw a 45 on each side and did some easy reps. Thats when I stood up and took real notice.

Next she threw on 25's, so she was at 185lbs, and she did about 5 good reps. At this point I'm feeling REALLY pathetic, because I was STRUGGLING with 175. Then came the kicker cause she threw on some 10's and benched a few more reps. Thats right, she put up over 200 lbs! I felt like a complete wimp.

I guess some guys noticed the dejected look on my face so they came over and told me not to feel too bad, because she was a powerlifter and did alot of competing.

I was reading a recent US magazine which had pictures from the Grammy Awards I believe. ANyhow, a pic of Madonna had captions which read "wow, looks like someone has been working out too much"...and, "look at those man-arms!". I was appalled that the look of Madonna's string bean arms would bring sucha reaction of the editors of the magazine. Man-arms???? Her arms cant be more than 10 inches around LOL Gimme a break. Wonder what they'd say if they saw me (5'7 and 170 lbs) in a tank top with my bulging tris and delts LOLOL
