Best proteins and absorption rates

Looking for some insight on what proteins you guys consider the best proteins for AM, post w/o and PM? I'm asking for types not brands. Also I've heard bad things about soy protein but Winco has it so damn cheap at $5/lb so any insight on that will be great too.

Whey is fast digesting so that's for post workout.

Casein is a slower digesting.

I judge protein like food. Are you getting ( a buck double protein) or are you getting a angus beef burger?

N2bm whey is my goto whey

Check out n2bulk to

What are your goals?

Avoid soy while on cycle

best protein for me?

The first question that people ask after starting exercise is, “should I get on protein?” It’s interesting that people see protein supplements as something different than other forms of protein. There’s also major concern over which variety is “best”. Protein is essential, and it’s the most essential macro nutrient in the body. Let’s look at what protein is the best for you and why! There are a variety of different forms of protein. There’s also a variety of different ways to isolate protein into powdered form. These factors and others play a specific role in which protein is best for you. It’s also important to determine when you will be consuming this protein. The final factor is if you will be consuming it with some other macro or combination of macro’s.There’s a near endless list of the variations of protein, but here is a standardized list of the basic forms of protein.WheyCaseinSoyEggBeefPlant Derived

Whey

Whey is the most popular form of protein and offers the most versatility. It comes in various forms, such as a simple whey concentrate to a hydrolyzed whey isolate. Whey benefits most as the quick, go-to protein for your post-workout shake. It provides quick digesting protein that hits the body fast. The flavors are great, but it’s key to get a quality product from a quality manufacturer. I’ve had plenty of flavor issues with grabbing the cheaper whey proteins out there.

Casein

Casein comes next on the list, as it’s popularity is ranked at #2 on the protein variety list. It is a slower digesting protein, that clots and slows digestion to a crawl. It is the ideal protein for night feedings due to its slower digestion. The flavors of this protein are not very great. Unless it’s mainly a blend of several forms of protein. This would be an ideal protein choice for those supplementing at night.

Soy

This protein comes third on the list, and also comes with mixed reviews. It is a vegan friendly choice, but it comes with some drawbacks. Soy contains phytoestrogens and tends to be a poor choice for bodybuilders, especially males. These phytoestrogens are basically a plant derived form of estrogen. That should put up a red flag for quite a few people. The plus side to protein is that there are other options. When sifting through the science, I see no real upside to choosing Soy as your main source or go-to source of powdered protein.

Egg

Another not so yummy flavored protein. It is also slower digesting than whey, but digests faster than casein. It touts easier digestion due to it not containing lactose naturally. It also is rather difficult to mask the flavor of this powder, but is would rank higher than casein (on the flavor scale). It does possess the properties of an ideal protein since it contains a solid amino acid profile.

Beef

Beef protein has been around for quite some time. It has not gotten much attention due to whey protein dominating the market. The protein also has a great amino acid profile, and naturally contains creatine. It is a great protein in the off-season, or for those that aren’t concerned with the addition of creatine (I’m not sure why you’d be opposed to creatine, but to each their own). The flavoring is surprisingly decent on most of the newer beef protein powders.

Plant Derived

Yes, soy is a plant, but it does get more attention than the rest of the plant derived proteins. Wheat and hemp are other choices of plant derived protein. For those looking for an alternative to the other proteins (vegans, vegetarians, etc.), then this is your ticket. The amino acid profiles of these are surprisingly decent, but the flavor tends to be awful. I have not been impressed with the flavoring of these proteins.

Honorable mention(s)

There are other varieties of protein out there. These are the more common varieties of protein. Some of the other’s like milk protein and even goat protein due deserve some credit. However, goat’s milk protein is not the most pleasant, but would work in a pinch. Milk protein, which is derived from cow’s milk (like whey and casein) is another good choice. It is higher in lactose, which makes it a much less popular choice. So, we just went through quite a few versions of protein. Now, you want answers. Which is the best? Well, that depends on you, your pocketbook, and your tolerance. If you cannot tolerate lactose, then you will want a lactose-free variety, which most proteins offer. If you are looking for a slow digesting protein, but don’t want to add any fats, then casein would be the ideal choice. The better choice post-workout is whey due to its faster digestion. The key is to get enough protein to meet your daily needs. The anabolic window is highly debatable, so as long as you are meeting your daily protein needs, you have obviously found the best protein for you.

If pro source has other supps you want cheaper then order from them. But their."pro source" supps are just like muscletech imho..overrated crap. ON hydrowhey is great shit. As are a few others.

I would avoid soy anything. Fuck soy. garbage. SOy is why vegans are grey colored.

Anyways....if someone knows a beef protein powder that doesnt make you want to gag please tell me.

Also there is Super plasma protein and newer pre digested bovine proteins. Or "MAP protein"

Well, there is only one product i know thats hydrolyzed beef protein isolate and its carnivor by musclemeds, never tried it, the macros looks good, 0g fat, 8g carbs and 23g protein in each scoop. The downside is the price, if you got the cash its great.
Read the reviews for taste if you want to buy it and not gag.

Lots of great info guys. I will avoid soy. You pretty much backed all of what I heard about it. I have taken beef protein in double chocolate that was pretty damn good. Right now I'm currently using gold standard whey.

Everyone who has commented on Carnivore here in the past has said the same thing. Its gag inducing shit.

I've been pretty pleased with ON's products in general. I love the Pro Complex and even their basic whey protein is pretty good.

That's the beef protein I had. I don't know what everyone was talking about, I thought it was pretty good even in water.

Your the first person who has said that it doesn't make you want to puke. Carnivore on paper looks like some killer shit to me. With flavors like blue raspberry it seemed ideal to mix in water.

I love carnivore! It took my stomach some time to get used to it as it caused a lot of gas in the beginning. I have the "cherry vanilla" which tastes like ass! But I like it a lot for what it is not how it tastes.

Yea I seem the whack ass flavors they offer so I opted for something normal like chocolate lol it's label is what sold me on it cause of the added creatine and the nutri facts it had. At 4T that shit sounds nasty as fuck lol I mix mine with almond milk, honey, bananas and peanut butter. Sometimes ill add oatmeal to use as a meal replacement. Some strawberry cream cheese and graham crackers make a bomb cheese cake shake.

When I go again to get my 25 pounder of whey I guess ill see if he has some samples of carnivore.

I read a lot of neg reviews over the flavor and how it was so nasty and was hesitant to try it but once I did I couldn't figure out what the reviews were talking about I thought the chocolate was pretty damn good.

Thanks bro!!!this is going to make life way easyer for me, i trust it's some good shit??

I am about to try it myself. My ART/PT (who is also and nat'l ranked PL) whom I trust completely recommended it to me. He also uses ON hydro like me and has the same taste basically. He said its probably the best tasting choc whey he has tried. Zero digestive issues. He also had a client with many digestive issues try it and they were fine. So thats enough for me. As far as I know the place is good with shipping and shit. Its local to me so I can just go there. APX 370+ servings....fuckin' A.
I buy one 3.5lb of hydro and a 5 lb of casein and its $105. So another 16.5 lb for an additional $45 is crazy. It will last me, wife and kid for months.

EDIT...if its out of stock just search the same thing in a smaller container. 10 lb is like $60

Try carnivore vanilla Carmel flavor it's not bad at all. It's not like the chocolate where u get the beefy ass aftertaste. I've tried both carnivore and carnivore MASS and the taste wasn't bad and the benefits ESPECIALLY from carnivore mass makes it one of the best mass gainers I've used.

Semper....silvia....wtf guys....ORDER SHIT ONLINE. WHy pay double when you can order shit from anywhere? N2BM.com, Bodybuilding.com, Protein factory...jesus christ anywhere. Any of these places will have some sort of good shit at your door in a couple days. WTF....stop going to GNC

Lol I understand the way you feel but GNC is the only place that sells food grade GSO for $10/16oz. I used to get it online but it was $30 for 100ml.

I have become a huge fan of Formulx, I think is the best whey protein on the market, they wanted to develop a recovery shake that could satisfy the needs of high-intensity athletes, providing all the nutrients their bodies needed post-workout, but at the same time did not jeopardize their health by putting less than optimal ingredients into the mix. They knew that their products source (where it came from), process (how it was formulated) and ingredients were going to lead them to the product they were after: A post-workout shake that delivered Performance results, tasted great, all while being healthy to drink. Their flagship product, Formulx Natural Recovery, they feel hit that right on the mark. They started with their grass-fed whey protein powder, that is extracted through micro-filtration system, at cold-temperatures to yield a very pure whey protein (yet undenatured and rich in biological activity) that is readily absorbed by your muscles. This gives us a premium-protein source that has virtually no traces of lactose or fat, with all the important protein properties still intact. They added natural flavoring like cocoa powder and sweetened the product with Stevia, a plant extract, and Birchwood Xylitol, a hardwood extract, both of which are very low on the glycemic index to help regulate blood sugar levels. They also added MCT oil to help with energy sustainability and calorie burning. Lastly, they added a whole bunch of plant-extracted digestive enzyme goodies to help even the most stubborn stomach out their digest our product (The digestive enzymes include: Lactase, lipase, protease, bromelain, papain, cellulase and amylase).

I love the taste, is sweet but not overpowering in your mouth and I dare you to tell me different.. You can find their product on their web formulx.com and also if you want you can get a 10%off using the code: fitnessbynutrition

Musclemeds Carnivore used to say beef protein isolate.... now it says beef COLLAGEN protein isolate.

Big difference in amino acid profile

Sent from my SCH-I545 using EliteFitness

Well I never did end up trying carnivore. But since you mentioned the change... what is the difference between the beef protein and beef collagen? better? worse?

EDIT: nvm.....answered my own question....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL3nOBQdphM&feature=plcp

Thanks for the info bro I always wondered about that protein, I "was" a big fan of it, not so much anymore!
