I have a couple more recipes i'd like advice on.
Do i eat em' or scratch em'?

****Chicken tortilla soup******

4 chkn breast halves
2 15 oz cans black beans, undrained
2 15 oz cans mexican stewed tomatoes
1 c. salsa
1 4 oz can chopped green chiles
14.5 oz can tomato sauce
tortilla chips ( can omit these )
2 c. grated cheese (can omit this also)

Combine all ingredients except chips and cheese in large slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low 8 hrs.
Just before serving, remove chicken breasts and slice into bite size pieces. Stir back into soup.
To serve put a handful of chips in each individual bowl, ladle soup over and top with cheese.
i've made this before, just wondering if it would be acceptable now that i'm trying to slim down
****one more****

*Mixed green strawberry salad*

Bag of fresh spinach or romaine lettuce
1 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
dressing:
1/2 c. sugar
1.5 tsp minced onion
1/2 c. veg. oil
2 tbs sesame seeds
1/4 tsp worchestershire sauce
1/4 c. cider vinegar
1 tbs poppy seeds
1/4 tsp paprika
Mix dressing ingred. together and blend well. pour over the greens and berry mixture Just before serving. 8 servings.
thanks! :)

Jens, I  ya! You are the best!!!
So do you think these would be a good addition to my diet or is the tortilla soup maybe too high in carb with all the tomato sauce and salsa?
I love this soup but i don't want to fix something that is a no-no or that i have to eat real tiny portions of, (not good with portion control yet).

jenscats is #1 Woo hoo!!! :garza:

You can find tomato foods that are lower in carbs and sodium. You just have to read all the labels. I usually buy a can of crushed tomatoes (Kroger Brand) and season it to taste. This is the best brand I've found as far as having the least amount of ingredients in it ex: tomatoes, water, citric acid (which is what you want).

You could also buy fresh ripe tomatoes and make your own tomato paste! Fresh salsa is awesome!!!

Are you on a competition diet?? If not - then I don't see why you can't include the soup as part of your meal plan......I would add maybe a green salad to round out the meal....and have it for lunch or earlier in the day....

OH! Just thought of this....sprinkle some sliced or slivered almonds on top of the spinach salad........YUM!
