Yet another deadlift question...

Ok,

I will start by saying that I absolutely love to deadlift. It is by far my favorite exercise and I wish I had started sooner (sooner than a few months ago). Now, I am still trying to get my form perfected. Do you folks that deadlift let the bar "ride" down your thighs on the way down? If not, because I do, what am I doing wrong (please don't say "letting the bar ride down your thighs")? It seems as though this is impossible for me to avoid with heavier weights (for me) so if I should not be doing it, then my form is obviously not correct.

TIA,

NateDogg

Deadlifts...

Let'em ride! Try not to tear your legs up too bad. Use baby powder to reduce friction. Protect that lower back on the decent; after a successful pull. Glad to hear you're deadlifting. It is an often maligned movement although unjustly. Use good form and you will reap the benefits. Good luck!

The bar should NOT touch your shins. It doesn't mine!!! If the bar touches your shins...then it is too close. This means that you will have to break your form to get the bar past your knees.

Baby powder helps though.

No bro, not my shins, my thighs. Sounds like this is correct though?

So, just to clarify for myself, you should lift the bar so that it JUST clears your knees and slides up AND down your thighs, but it should NOT touch your shins? Correct? That will keep you in form for the whole lift?

That is basically what I am doing now, but I want to make sure.

Thanks,

Hey Bfold, I've got a quick question.

I deadlift standing on a 6" riser. I was taught to do it this way and havn't ever changed. When I try it without the riser it doesn't feel right at all. What are your thoughts on doing them this way?

BTW, I'm DL 405x5 on my last sets. Just to give you an idea where I'm at.

The only time the bar toucxhes my thighs is when i am completely standing up and going for a lockout. The bar rarely touches my shins, this happens only whe I lean a little to much back on the way up. Try not to have the bar rest on your thighs, my friend does this and it is starting to bruise his quads pretty badly.

Not for sure if I am understanding...

Are you standing on a riser or are the weights on the riser?

Either way...just pull from the floor.

It definitely does not "rest" on my thighs, it sort of glides down them. It doesn't bother my quads at all so I guess it's ok? The bar rarely touches my shins as well.
