Why I love the deadlift

The deadlift has to be the only exercise were you can take long periods of time off and still come back without a huge loss is strength.

This is my second week dlifting since Feb '09. My best lift in Feb. was 535. Today I pulled 405 for 3. Nothing crazy but for the amt. of time I took off I think its amazing. I go in spurts where I lift heavy as hell for a couple months and I stop. Thinking maybe I should stick with it for a longer period of time and see what #'s I can hit.

Stats 6'2'' 205 lbs
bf roughly 9%

Only used chalk. No belt nor straps!!!

Good shit! I just pulled 495 (shitty) but im wondering how much heavier something can feel LOL. good job youll only get stronger bro

Nice bro.

I recently stopped pulling in a belt and I am starting to feel a lot stronger without it. I'm pulling sets of five and I feel so fucking beastly ripping that shit up with nothing but chalked hands.

I agree. I feel like my core muscles benefit greatly from pulling without a belt. Of course when I start doing singles I will use a belt.

Also pulling with chalk is a big plus for grip strength.

I always pull without belt until single or max effort. If I was wearing a belt on my last set of 5 I wouldn't have strained my back. Got tired, lost form, lost leverage, fucked it. Next time my weights get up I will pull singles through triples only to guarantee form.

of course i'll warm up with 5s and only use belt at the top.

Great job. Wear a belt. IT DOES MATTER. Take it from someone that trained without one for a long time. You dont want to start getting tears in your stomach.

I agree on wearing a belt if your going to failure. You should never ever go past failure or perform negatives on DL's because your form gives out and there is nothin to compensate because you are already utilizing all the available muscles- unlike going past failure on bicep curls where shoulders/momentum can assist or chinups where u can start using momentum to get up to the bar. I always use a belt if its on a set where im going to do as many reps with good form as possible. Mind you i only pull in the 300's :( but i just thought id chip in.

I only been deadlifting for 6 months tho :)
