Why are squats considered #1? Anyone can solve this mystery?

Thats great. Howeever leg press offers more stress since you can use much more weight?

Here's some reasoning I saw once.......

Lets say you put 600lb on the leg press........well the sled is usually on a 45 degree angle so the 600lb is in fact equivalent to 300lb total squat weight. Then you arent lifting your bodyweight either......so if you weigh 200lb you are doing the equivalent of a 100lb squat......but you get to impress everybody with the number of plates you left on the dumb machine.

PS: how come you deadlift twice as much as you squat???????? How much do you deadlift??

Hello all.. Im new to this board but just wanted to say....

SQUATS will kick ur ass.. if done right it will tear you up.. I see alot of guys on the legpresses and they put on about 16-20 plates and they dont even go down all the way. If done correctly it is a good addition to squats but by no means a substitution.

I can only say how I feel when I do squats.. out of breath, dizzy, feel like i'm going to black out, then I throw on a couple more plates and I do it again! YEAH FEEL THE BURN!

stability ball, physio ball, ab ball, swisser ball. round thing with air in it. between 45 and 75 cm, colored.

just a little bigger than the ones i put on your forehead.

hehehehe. here you go. 135 on a stability ball, supposedly he can do 225. its hard enough for me to get both feet on and do one with bodyweight without pitching off of it.

*** Squats on the stability ball make one better at squatting more efficiently on the swiss ball. That is all. There is no scientific evidence that lends any support to the notion that stability ball squatting transfers over to a better athletic performance. Whether this is due to a increase in ones strength and it's many facets, agility, balance etc.

Again, we've got a bad case of math going on here. 600 pounds on a 45 degree leg press is NOT equivalent to 300 pounds. You have to use the formula from before to get the right number. In reality, assuming the friction between the sled and runners is neglegible, approximately 425 pounds is what you are leg pressing if you have 600 pounds on the rack.

Not meant to be a flame, just wanted to clarify. Other than the calc, I would agree with Imnodutch on this one.

"Why are squats considered #1? Anyone can solve this mystery?"

.I've never puked after a set of leg extensions
.I've never turned green after my 5th set of leg presses
.My eyes have never became blood shot from a set of leg curls
.Hack squats are not a strength movement
.They just are...

Does that answer your question? It should...

B True

Call me dumb, but I find bent over dumbell rows far more taxing than squats. gees I breath heavy after a set of em vs squats.

WHen you think about your upper body is pretty much relaxed in squats, in a dumbell bent over row on a bench you whole body has to contract to stabilise the movement, especially chest and legs.

Kingsquat,

My last post was strictly tongue-in-cheek.....I guess that I didn't make that clear.
