Why are squats considered #1? Anyone can solve this mystery?

I do reps with 335 lbs, and I weigh about 182-185 ( 5'9" currently dieting down), I don't do it for bodybuilding though. I squat for sprinting and vertical leaping. I explode the weight on the way up and lower it slowly 4-6 secs, 8-10 reps. I hit failure on the last rep.
Train at home, so no spotters here, I just drop the weight on the squat rack bars.

I do find bent over dumbell rows on a bench taxing, its like my upper body and legs are tensing as like hell to stablise my body. And I don't do it like most people - again I explode it as hard as I can, on the way up, control it for a sec and then lower it slowly milking the negative. I use 80Lb dumblells for this exercise

Everything I do is for gaining explosiveness. Absolute strength is secondary. So I have to be able explode the weight with a bit of speed.

Anyway I won't argue anymore - everyone is different, and I don't find squats that intensive as other people do compared to some other exercises I do, such as bent over rows, power cleans weighted chins all with slow negative phase. Maybe its because Im used to hammering my legs from sprinting and lots of vertical jumping in my plyometric training and basketball. For what's it worth my legs and calves are by far the biggest muscle groups in my body in terms of muscle mass.

I take your point about explosiveness......we have alot of powerlifters on this site and our sport is all about explosiveness. For what its worth, I've seen some sprinters squat some very impressive weight.

i dont know what this guy is on about.

squats are heavy as shit they get me all dizzy and mellow feeling after and i walk like im drunk and crippled.

actually the squat even scares me. im gonna squat tomorrow and im like damn i better get like 11 hours of sleep or something, or ill never be able to do good in the squat.

also cuz last week i did a PR squat and im not sure if i can do that lift again

I am exactly like you. When I have a squat workout coming up I am kinda scared and excited all at once. And I am useless if I do not sleep very well.

as far as being dizzy/crippled is concerned i know what you mean!!!!!!!!!!!.....the other day i squatted 4 reps to failure.......locked the bar in the rack once i was done and proceeded to walk away from it with the whole room spinning and feeling very sick.......u reach failure on squats and you know about it!!!

Hello all!

Anyone enlightened out there can explain this mystery?

Theoreticly the reason why Squats are so productive is because of the weight you use, right?

Well, when you do deadlifts you use much more weight. In my case its like 2x of squat weight. Also shouldnt leg press be far superior to squat since you could load much more weight (like 5x of your squat weight) and do 2x then reps?

So why is leg press inferior?

anyone can explain?? Where is Sherlock Holmes?

reply please!

Thanx!

I personally Squat more than I deadlift 515 for 7 at present vs 445 for 3. However Deadlifts are a close second to Squats the differencee being in Squats you actually do use more weight becuase you are using bodyweight, and the ROM is greate. Leg Presses arent quite as good, becuase there is sometihng about moving the mass o f the body through space using heavy weight, and the angled leg pres isnt a true weight- becuase its ANGLED!!
