No, MD isn't a "gay" mag. But there's subtle homoerotic suggestion -- which isn't anything new. As far back as the 40's and up to the 70's all BB mags served as soft porn for gays. Keep in mind, Playboy was as hot as it got for straight men and gay men had nothing. Pictures of young, oily musclemen in thongs fit the bill just fine.
Any mag that gets you interested in training is a worth the price. But they're all duplicitous to a degree. Some just more than others. MMI is the worst in terms of advetising but best in terms of information. Flex is worst in terms of honesty but best with science and medical info and quality prose. MD is a good blend but has a lot of psuedo sciency stuff that appeals to people who want to think they're intellectual, when in fact the info is a bunch of horseshit. They all use T&A because, in spite of what everyone says, those issues sell the best.
