Honestly maybe 6 solid hours.

Please! The majority of the people I see in the gym overtrain, and they look it,
Your muscles need rest so they can grow. In my book the leading indicator of overtraining
is muscle loss, and depletion. there muscles have that flat look, instead of that nice full, dense
look.

The majority of the people you see dont have their nutrition down. I agree there is a limit to how much one can train but 5 times a week for an intense hour will not put anyone into overtraining if they sleep eat. If your muscles feel flat, eat extra carbs, they wont feel flat if you are getting 800g carbs/ day

Every once in a while i get symptoms of overtraining during bulking so what ill do is eat a pint of icecream and the simple sugar and fat refills the muscle and somehow help my CNS recover. 5-6 hours later im fresh and ready to train.

also age plays a factor.. when i was in my late teens our weightlifting coach would make us workout for 45 minutes and then run for 45 minutes back to back, 6X a week.. yeah we had to come in on saturday mornings too.. we only had sunday off. and this is in FL and our facility had no A/C, just a big crappy fan (but boy did i love working out in that dust bowl) and we were running in FL 90 degree heat. and keep in mind in high school you are not getting the amount of protein and other nutrition.

that type of routine today 11 years or so later would be very tough on the body and as we get older it takes longer and longer to recover.

the dude who earlier said there was no such thing as over training must be very young, just wait till you get older and you will start to feel the effects of heavy workouts more and more.

also unfortunately tendons and ligaments wear out over time.. unlike bone which can grow back after being broken.. i know guys in their 50's who are missing cartilage in their joints from the wear and tear

Yep, you do have some valid points, nutrition is a big factor of why people look flat.
However, fact: over-training breaks down muscle tissue, but define over-training, I'm
talking about the retards that do 20 sets for triceps, and 30 sets for chest, and are in the
gym for 3 hrs a pop. in my book that's over-training.

that's odd you would need to eat ice-cream during a bulk. i usually take in simple carbs
pwo when bulking. it's when i'm cutting a need a boost every once in a while.
