Want to increase your bench?...my story

So I used have a big chest (thanx dad) compared to the rest of me. I was benching 275X5 about 2 years ago, @ 190lbs. But all my progress stopped there, i got frustrated and stopped benching completely, incline DB became my staple. I began to really concentrate on deads and squats b/c my bench was more than those two put together.

So here I am 2 years later, last week i decided its time to get on a consistent bench program again. Last week i felt like a weakling. This week i nailed 240 5X5 and it was easy as shit. I feel i will be back where i was, plus more in no time! On top of this i am finally squating and deadlifting more than ever. I feel that i am finally strong, and its a great feeling.

So my advice for people who want to increase bench (most alerady know this, but for those who don't believe it), is to squat and deadlift your ass off, it will make you a force to reckon with in all of your lifts!

Thanx for letting me vent!

I had the same experience.

I stopped benching entirely... did dips and incline dumbells for chest... hit my squats and deads heavy for 5x5... then came back and set my lifetime bench PR.

I didn't bench at all from Nov 22, 2002 to about January 1, 2003...came back and added 50 pounds to my 3 board PR on the first day. That was nice. :)

My story.

Did not bench over 70% of my max in about 8months. Benched about four times in that period.

All I usually did for chest was constant tension db flat and incline flyes(the bells were kept apart at the top by about 6inches)for about 5 sets total a week.

First heavy bench workout last week after I had done some dynamic bench came out with a bench that was 5lbs lower than my lifetime best.

Ecstatic was how I felt and now the routine is westside influenced here on out things can only improve.

This is good to hear...Im estimating finally beating that my old pr in about a month, which will be awesome b/c its been hanging over my head for too long, the only pr that hasnt changed in the last 2 years
