Hey ladies. I was looking for some advice as to how my mother should train. She is 49 years old. Her goals are to tighten her arms, tighten/lift her chest, tighten/lift her butt?, and tighten her stomach. She will be working with a Bowflex that we have, not free weights or a gym. It was also her preference to do an all body split 3 times a week. So basically we made a workout A and workout B. Workout A includes bench press, lat pulldown, biceps curl, pushdown, shoulder press, and ab work (we're looking for hip/butt exercises). Workout B includes fly, row, curl, triceps extension, and more ab work. We alternate the workouts. She also does cardio 3 days a week. Also, she has 6 pound dumbbells, but currently we havent been using them. I am welcoming all advice as to a good routine if this is not suitable. Any exercises she should be doing, anything. Also, she is doing 3 sets of 12. She's not into anything serious, just a middle aged woman looking to improve her looks. Thanks.

First off a lot of the stuff you are talking about are things that would need to include an excellent diet - just a "good diet" probably won't make a big difference if she wants all these results that are partly due to her current diet, but also fighting against estrogen tendencies and the natural stuff that happens w/ age & lack of use. So w/ that caveat, I would probably suggest referring to Bill Philips' BODY FOR LIFE program. A bowflex allows you to do most of the standard exercises you see done in the gym and buying some additional weights, I'd recommend up to 10-12 lbs for things like curls & tri kick backs in the future. The BFL diet is very flexible & adaptable and the weight training program is a 3 day split based on upper body / lower body w/ some cardio which she can do out on the street or come up w/ something other than needing a gym. I would suggest just lookign at this book in the book store & seeing if the program can be accommodated w/ the eqpt you have available.
