Thinking of entering a Power Lifting Competition on October 19th

Hey everyone. Some guy I know at the gym, just asked me if I wanted to compete in a PL competition since he didnt want to go alone. Id have to fill out the forms within the next few days if I wanted to do it. Luckily for me it only includes the deadlift and bench press and no squats (since I hardly do them). Im 23 and 185. My best gym deadlift is 465, and unassisted bench is 365. But when I bench I do not pause. So im thinking with the pause and no equipment maybe Id get 315? Not sure cuz I havent tried pausing the weight yet. Wondering if its even worth entering with these lifts and also wont have the time or money to get a bench shirt to work with. So it would be raw. Think Id place well? What does everyone think? ThanX alot guys! :D
 
Shouldve added also: How should I prepare for the comp, any tips? Im thinking I need to train my bench competition style with a pause before the meet. But wondering if theres anything else I should do? Sometimes my deadlift rests on my upper thighs for a little bit before I get it all the way up...is that valid? ThanX again
 
i was gonna do one really soon too but somethin came up and cant do one till feb now..anyways..i'm a few lbs lighter but my lifts arent near that good and i was gonna enter anyways..i never paused either..until a couple wks ago and it wasnt near as bad as i thought. when i put on the shirt..it was really easy to pause and it wasnt as tight as it could be.

Hey King! ThanX for posting on my threads bro! I bet youd be awesome. Those are great lifts for being in the mid 170's! Let me ask you a question. You say it wasnt near as bad, pausing it? Was wondering about that myself. Did you have to go alot lighter? Im thinkin Id be lucky to get 315 with that extra challenge added. I like to use speed for my bench, and that explosive rubber band like effect you get when you drop the weight fairly quick. Very interesting what you said about the shirt also. Ive never really used one. And if I do the competition I wont be using a shirt. (due to not knowing about the comp in time, and not having the money or time to train with one, Comp is on the 19th) So itll be raw. But lets say I used the shirt, just for fun, would the pause be easier? Sounds cool. ThanX!
 
the pause wasnt bad...just as soon as i stopped the bar..he said press. and with the shirt..it was pretty effortless..the pause anyways..
