The Walking Dead **spoilers**

The spear wall was the most effective military formation for centuries; Am I really this nerdy. :)

lol..this made me laugh!! I don't think of those things but love the thread because I'll go watch it again with all these new ideas! I enjoyed the second episode too.

And tomorrow is Thursday already!!! ;)

OK, I'm gonna nerd out; A slicing weapon isn't your best option if penetrating a skull is your objective. I'll take an old school war hammer...It was designed to pierce the brain bucket through armor.

A samurai blade will go through someone's skull with ease in real life. Light, fast, and in a zombie killing spree, it would be the best weapon. You literally could kill 20 zombies in one minute and not get tired.

Having taken martial arts the last few years and learning the sword, the quickness and efficiency of killing a group of people in a crowd with a hand held weapon is best done with a samurai blade. Knowing proper striking techniques should not make your arms tired for an extended period of time.

A bat doesn't cut, a large sword is way too heavy and slow, a spear is not very agile and versatile, a mace is too slow.

So glad someone made a thread...

I love zombie movies, I didn't know TWD was out til I came across it on Netflix one night...watched the first season easily in a day, watched the 2nd season in 2 days...I'm spoiled now :-p

Read where they're doing half the season now and taking a break, picking it back up next year. I HATE THAT

They have to split it if they even try to stay anywhere nears the novels which they can't cause hbo wouldn't even air that kind of violence. There is just too much material to cover.

I see. I'm thinking of getting the books, books are always better. Sounds like these are pretty badass

If you have an I pad get the comixology app you can download ll the books in collected editions up to issue 95 I think issue 103 comes out next week

would get dicey if they got in close on you....the samurai blade can be brought up from any angle so it works well up close and at range. Remember these zombies have no armor so you could theoretically start the slash at the balls and go right up and through the skull....these zombies are squishy! And weight becomes an issue when your hvaing to wade through a horde of zombies. How many swings do you have with that hammer before your arms start to tire vs the samurai blade? A claymore style blade is about the only other hand to hand weapon i would consider outside the samurai blade or chinese long sword. You could potentially go through multiple zombies with one of them so the added weight would be made up for. Problem is that even if you cleave one of em in half they still ain't dead till the brains been hit....so gotta stay with the light blades.

The other thing i thought about hte other day is that bolt pistol from no country for old men. As those zombies are lined up against the fence you could just walk up and down the line and plunk each one in the forehead.

A warhammer weighs less than three pounds and is about two feet long with points on all sides; That makes it a very versatile weapon. Remember, it was developed near the end of the armor evolution in Europe where they had tremendous personal experience in hand to hand warfare. Combined with a riot shield in a formation it would be a very versatile and effective weapon. You can turn to the base or head to thrust, half grip it or grip at the head for closer combat.

Many a knight that was trained from the age of seven to be a warrior was brought down by a man at arms wielding nothing more than a glorified labor tool. :)

If you use a katana you have to fight like a warrior as opposed to a soldier, that will get you killed; Close order disciplined infantry beats warrior every time.

sorry java, samurai blade beats every other handheld weapon there is for zombie killing. With your hammer you're killing one zombie max per swing. The samurai blade gives you arcs that could potentially take down more than one per swing. One of the lightest quickest weapons ever made. Only thing better would be the chinese long sword which is the same damn thing just longer

Chinese traditional battlefield swordsmanship

We're talking about killing mindless zombies man, not armored men.

Soldier vs. Warrior comparison makes no sense in the context of choosing a handheld weapon.
