Talked to Milos Sarcev tonight on the phone

Yup, he called me back tonight after I left a message at his gym... from his cell. I got a little excited when I heard him... yeah, i Know... school boy giddy. ;)

He gave me the low down on training at his gym. Basically... it is a $350 a month rental fee, and you keep all the money you get from your own clients. You get the first two months free... so you can establish yourself, and if it doesn't workout, you can just walk.

His catch is that he wants you to be a member of his gym (40/mo) cancel anytime... and also would want your client to be a member, or pay the daily fee. The standard membership is 70/mo and no cancellations, I think... your guests would get the 40/mo deal and could cancel at anytime.

I think it would be a great deal and place to train people if I already had like 5-10 clients... but starting off, I don't know... i'd need one hell ofa marketing sheme... I'd not have to pay the $350/mo rental fee to him for 2 months...

Overall, it's a pretty reasonable deal... Milos is there, it's the official gym of Flex magazine... good exposure and help for a PT career... I'd just need clients.

I was wondering if anyone was going to reply to this... :)

He was cool... his gym is supposed to be a "hardcore" gym... no fancy aerobic classes... he made that a point... sounds like my type of place, but I am worried that I might not find enough clinets that want to get TRAINED at a hard core gym... ya know?

Ahh well... decisions decisions...

He's linked with Poliquin so you know he's gym will have lots of good stuff like Glute ham raise and Reverse Hyper machine etc

Yeah, I've been posting on his little BB... not too many users, zero traffic, but there are alot of uneducated guys, it's like... Milos is smart and the members of his board ask rediculous questions... like... "What are carbs?" LOL ... I want to tell them "COME TO EF and READ!" :)

I think the only question to ask is can you afford to give it a two-month test run? If you have the money to make it through those two months if things don't work out....I'd do it. I think it would be a great experience even if things didn't work out.

I have to agree with you on the fact that it will be harder getting clients to join a "hardcore" gym. Most the people that I've seen that have a PT are either strippers trying to keep in shape that like to talk and flirt as much as they like to lift and then the really out of shape guys that are trying to make a big change in their life. I think a really hardcore gym might intimidate both groups.

Keep us posted on the whole deal.
 
IMO if one had the money, setting up a home gym would be the way to go, nothing like one to one attention is a private setting for client comfort.

just from what ive seen:

in socal, the money is in general fitness. people want to get in, get out, and be done with it. privacy and individual attention is good though. a crowded gym will turn off a client if their time is during said busy time. if they feel their workout is hindered in some way by a crowd, its discouraging for the paying client. so take that into consideration when choosing a gym.

the hardcore, will train with those that are hardcore, but generally you will not find a great deal of traffic (that you can prospect) in hardcore gyms. if there are big name trainers/competitors making their business there, you will be competing against "established" names, regardless of if you can give a better workout or create a better program. (which i think you can)

rent may be low, but again, you have to market/prospect/evaluate for new clients which can take up alot of your time initially. thats why the 2 month period is so inviting. milos wants someone who will get in there, establish themselves and run with the ball, so to speak. if youve got nothing but time on your hands...go for it. a good way to do it is...be there. ALOT! which means, you train once per day...you do active recovery, you do bodypart splits, basically you go onstage so you get the attention you are getting at your gym now...only at this gym and you close those questioners with training. it goes from being helpful to being helpful with a purpose. as long as you can feel in your heart that what you know/can contribute to someone is valuable, you wont bat an eye when you discuss training,your rates, etc. if they sense hesitation, you wont close it. if they sense confidence and enthusiasm, it will project onto them when you bring up working with them.
