Well, I was 2 squat days out from my meet. I wanted to try on a suit and see how free squats felt.
i had just received a new pair of groove briefs from frantz as well as my altered canvas suit from a secret location on Planet Blotron.
ANYWAY.
It took me 30 minutes to get in my fucking groove briefs. My back was killing me from the effort, my partners fingernails were off, and i think i lost about 5 lbs in water. I was genuinely miserable. it also took 405 before i was able to get close to the box (which i already put a 100lbs plate on to make it easier for me to get down).
I finished off the box squat warmups with 635. My back was still lit up and not feeling particularly great.
I next threw on the canvas and some knee wraps (which i havent used in 5 years). Man did it feel wierd. I wound up the day with a really shaky 750lbs. It wasn't hard mind you. The gear just had me so bound up I couldn't really guage parallel. I mean the weight flew up but on video, I was only at parallel. Pisses me off. I also had issues getting under the damn monolift with all the gear on.
So, what is the point of this post?
Well, I am going to ditch the new groove briefs. My wife points out everyday that my ass and uper thighs are getting bigger.
She said it looked like I had a horses leg now. I asked her if she were sure I didn't look like a horse in other places, too? She said definitely not
The point is big guys shouldn't use really constricting gear.
So, I am going back to a pair of loose fitting groove briefs next week, with the canvas suit. I am also going to drop the box squats entirely next week. I need to really get used to sticking my ass out and flaring knees and practicing depth. The box is kind of a crutch cause you know where to stop.
I will keep everyone posted and I will add a link to the video when i get my camera charged up so you guys can flame me about my depth.
take care.
