South Beach diet?

I know its kind of old news now....
But has anyone here followed the same type of diet?
Is it basically a ketogenic (sp?) diet? Or is it not, because it tells you to still restrict some of the fat?
thx!

No, it's not ketogenic but you may still have success with it. It might not be the ideal diet for someone who is lifting heavy. If you restrict carbs for an extended time (longer than a week) your progress will likely suffer without a carb-loading phase. Although I don't know the details of the diet, so I could be way off.

Weeks 1-2 (Phase 1) COULD be keto if you want...they basically restrict all carbs and keep fat at a moderate level. Depends on how easily you get into keto and if you need the very high fat content like CKD. After that (Phase2) they bring back in some fruits and complex carbs. It's meant to be a lifestyle change. You start out strick to get the ball rolling and then gradually move towards something that you can live with indefinitely. Depends on what your goals are but I prefer CKD for quick BF loss. My "normal" diet is similar to South Beach's long-term plan anyway...mostly complex carbs, fruit, and veggies. I rarely if ever go for candy, ice cream, junk food, and processed carbs.

it is probably the only Brand name Diet out there that I agree with. Its a very healthy diet and is very close to what I use when trying to maintain a low bodyfat.
