Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Hope it continues to go down, but glad Flinstone feet went bye bye again :) SOrry to hear about the shoulder Sas... but ditto what Sarge said... NICE GUNS ;)

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

LOL at the "sausages"!!! Memorial Day weekend I sat out in the shade (dodging the sun) had a couple of drinks and ate LOADS of shit...hence - my toes were little sausages at the end of the day - AND my AC was broken. NEVER experienced that before. My shoes were so tight I didn't want to wear them because I was stretching them out.

what I'm trying to say.........I feel for ya'! lol

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Its amazing how bloaty I can get when I cut off a clean diet...

So to combat that & the backward motion on my progress, today...

Diet: sort of a modifed detox diet for 2 days

Meal 1: 8 am
4 oz turkey patties
1/2 grapefruit

Meal 2: 11 am
juiced: carrots, celery, beets, 1/2 apple, kale, broccoli sprouts

Meal 3: 2 pm
1/2 c brown rice
2 c fresh broccoli

Meal 4: 5 pm
4 oz turkey patties
1 c green beans

Meal 5: 9 pm
juiced: same as above

Training:
AM: - didnt' get to cardio because my realtor was supposed to come early to take pix for my fliers - he came after 1 pm ...

PM:
55 min cardio = 15 min stair master (HIIT) + 35 min recumbant bike + 5 min step mill
15 min sauna

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

I know that very well.... lost 10lbs overnight after eating chicken and veggies and loading water sunday night after an "off track" weekend :)

Hope you feel better soon with the juice ;)

teehee!

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

YAY! Pretty much back to where I was pre-last week.

Actually shorted myself the carb meal today because this realtor called to bring her clients thru my house after 4 pm today - this was around 2 pm - so I needed to clean up the house a little as I do still live here. I wasn't expecting a response so quickly to my listing. So I start cleaning, and goddam if this lady doesn't come waltzing in my front door w/ her people at 3:15 pm w/o even knocking, yelling if anyone was here or calling ahead. I told her explicitly that I would be here all afternoon. Sheesh. I come down the stairs w/ my arms full of laundry & a bunch of garbage sitting in the entry way and the A/C turned to 78 degrees like - uh, I'm still here & you're early....

... bitch.

... for that I think I should MAKE her clients buy my house and she gets a reduced commission.

I've got enough veggies for 1 more juicing in the morning!

And I got in 45 min of cardio (at home after I realized the gym closes early on Fridays  )

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Hmmmmm......the last time I looked at MY clock. 4 PM came AFTER 3:15 PM.......maybe she needs a new one????

So when you do this "juice" thing....you just throw a bunch of stuff together and do what with it? I'm interested......

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

LOL - you girls are so cute :)

Naw, just "life". I've entered that phase of "laid off, job hunting" where you start to get nervous about how much money you are burning thru, how fast the recruiters & everyone else gets back to you (or doesn't) and just this perpetual state of hurry up & wait. I've still stayed out of the gym to let my back relax some and saw the massage therapist yesterday. Things are getting better & will probably get back in there. Right now trying to set up a trip to LA in mid-July so trying to get some interviews or informational meetings or something to happen while I'm out there.

Just trying to manage my stress right now.

I so hear you on that part......it really bugs me when they don't even acknowledge that they received your resume/application....

Most places require you submit via the Internet which is fine, then you receive an autoresponder w/ the acknowledgement. But I do understand how hard it is to get thru the volume of applications -- I did hiring for one company a few yrs ago - we got over 400 applications / day. And I was the only one to go thru them all. No, I'm not going to respond to them - esp since probably 1/2 were from people not qualified and as far away as Russia.

I've done the Internet & fax & have gotten the auto-response.......a few were jobs I really really wanted - never heard a thing....*sigh* Doesn't help I'm impatient!! LOL

That's when you follow up tho. Just sending in resumes doens't mean squat.

True - but a lot of the ads only give you the fax number to fax in your info - they don't list a phone number or company name.....

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Its hard I know -- what I keep hearing is that if you are qualified and you can't network your way into a job, just keep bugging them.

Send follow up fax's :)

...actually, there might be a reverse fax number look up engine online.

Found it: http://fax.addresses.com/fax_directory.php

ALOT more difficult than I though it would be, you need the state and city then you sift through all the numbers in the area  I tried... best wishes :)

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Well, as noted above, a really shitty mood has been sitting on me for the last 2 days - definitely entering that phase of unemployment and it scares the hell out of me because I spent 6 months of pure misery in 2003 doing the same thing. The good news is that the job mkt is MUCH better now, but its still a very hard thing to continue going thru as you watch your retirement savings get eaten up w/ monthly bills. Even the house payment is going to be very slow to get rid of & I've got free housing on the beach just waiting for me.

Anyway - before succumbing to the devil called depression, a 20 min call to Mom  and off to the gym to see what works & what's still messed up. Leg day baby!

Nope. -- All competition this year has been passed in favor of saving money and getting to CA. :) I'm living on a budget right now and 2 trips out of state and all the other costs just didn't fit in. I need a job more than I need a trophy right now! There's always another competition....

Ok, well that's too bad, darnit. :(

IP, Mermaid, her husband, and I will begin other planning, then. ;)

You TAKE CARE of yourself and good luck!!!

Go west young girl, go west!

Californiee is the place ya wanna be.
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverleee...
Hills that is.

Or wherever they'll hire me & pay for relocation...

...

In support of a positive look for interviews, I finally got my hair colored again -- starting to get some pretty offensive roots going. How is it that you can be born and spend the first 35 yrs of your life with literally white hair, and then all of a sudden this dishwater color starts invading your head??? NO FAIR.

Anyway -- fixed that, got a trim, look healthy. Walked around the mall a bit - I haven't gone shopping literally since last year. One problem I have is that my lats are so big right now, none of those cute little flimsy tops fit. Well they fit but I can't get them back off. Its evil what taking a few days off cardio does to my legs. A reminder that no, I don't really need to be lifting - I just need CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO!

And speaking of, since I spent all day getting my hair done & then doing the "mall saunter" & the dumb gym closes early, I'm thinking its time to do some cardio on the ol' in-home Precor...

.. this should be interesting -- there ain't crap on TV so I'm reduced to doing cardio while watching "Hotel Erotica Cabo" on Cinemax ...

"Last Tango in Cabo" (2006) Adult Profram. A woman arrives for an arranged marriage to a stranger, but engages in an affair with a handsome man.

Damn. I think its a repeat.

OK, a teen guy I can believe. What am I supposed to say about a female approaching the big 41....??

And did you cardio to it?

... The really sad thing is that I may be canceling my pay tv & sticking w/ basic to cut back on the bills. That may cut into my cardio progress.... :worried:

never mind. :qt:

I am SOOOO proud of my kitty! He knew something was up all morning while I was packing. Then when I took away his food he was a little concerned. Didn't want him getting an upset stomach in the car. But I was also worried about him getting dehydrated in the car w/ no water. But figured I'd take it as I went.

So I dropped him into his carry cage (which he doesn't like) and he was doing his panic meow for a while. Took him about an hour and half to settle down and then he was pretty much quiet for the rest of the trip. I was worried he'd be a stress case for the whole trip - he's pushing 15 yrs old so its not like this is easy on him - but he is completely takign it in stride. As soon as we got into the condo he started chewing on one of my mom's dead ferns and then threw up a little bile - probably from not eating all day. So I cleaned that up & fed him & he's happy now!

I bought some sushi for dinner & now debating throwing down a Capt & Diet or not.... Nice to be here!

Just so damn humid!

Yea, that accent will drive me nuts... It really feels like Florida here, except for that accent. On the east coast of FL you're more likely to hear a NY accent. But here, its all "Yawwwwaallll". People are very nice tho. This part of the beach is not couches on porches but the whole drive here is.

I'm so glad kitty is well! Did you ever see, Johnny Crason telling Rachel Welch, with her kitty on her lap..¨May I pet the pussy¨...LOL.

LOL.. Johnny Carson -- dirty ol' man in such a cute way!

I'm actually here w/o them - they are up at the "northern home" (the cabin on my mom's parents' property). I may move down here for the rest of the summer while waiting for my house to sell - just a change of scenery & they want someone to get some use out of the place - otherwise they were going to put it up for rent over the summer months. And then if a hurricane kicks up I can still head back to my house. This was sort of a "dry run" to see how my cat handled the drive & just for something - hell its the beach!

Yep - I have a townhouse on the W side of Atlanta - out in the burbs a bit. I have no idea what people do in ATL for excitement. It seems all they do is sit in traffic. And its not like you actually get to anywhere excitign for the time you spend in traffic.

At least that's my observation. The new aquarium here is fantastic but otherwise, GET ME OUTTA HERE!

He really doesn't like Atlanta...I have never been there. I was thinking I'd visit before he leaves. He's working on the Black Hawk helicopters error predictions now...

I think unless you have a bunch of family here I have no idea why anyone would live here.

Meanwhile I'm now at the condo about 10 min from the beach. I wish I had a boat here. I'm such an ocean person but its so different here compared to the E coast of S Florida. The diving generally sucks here (though its ALOT better than it is in Atlanta! LMAO!) I spent 3 hrs this afternoon drivign up & down the beach looking for "the bars" -- you know, the places where everyone hangs out. Its amazing how "backwater" it feels here. The hurricanes last yr really cleared out some of the stuff on the beach - its literally white sugar sand here but it feels very desolate to me- not grown in w/ palm trees, etc. Its just very different. And all "the bars" are these little holes int the wall up & down the beach between condos & hotels. Its just very different.

Right now I'm about 2 rum & cokes into waiting for the fireworks to go off -- there are 2 little cities here - the smaller one (where I'm at) is doing fireworks tonite - I'm not sure where but I *thinK* it will be right out in front of the condo over the Gulf. I was watching some tourist boats drop anchor out in front of the marina here and right now I'm listenign to the chick on the mic'd acoustic guitar at the restaurant next door do all the classics - Jimmy Buffet, etc. It feels sort of like the party is here but no one really showed up. Its a very weird feeling. I did treat myself to one of my favorite cheats - taco chips w/ fresh fish dip & jalapenos + rum & coke. Unfortunately I'm a very cheap drunk these days. :)

I did do an hr of cardio and then managed to drop a plate on my face today in the little gym thingy they have at the condo here. Then I sat in the sauna for about 15 min. Then set off to find "the hang outs" on the beach. I can do cardio tomorrow at the condo - I'm sure the gym at the community center is closed on the 4th. Then back on it on Wed. The weather is gorgeous here so I can't complain. And best of all, ITS NOT ATL!

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday!

^^ Sounds nice even so Sass!! As for the plate - are you ok?? Did you get a black eye or anything??

Fell on the outside of my left eye - just a cut. Nothing even worth making up a good fight story about. O well. :)

*perk* I think I heard rum and coke...... ;)

sorry to hear about that guy that got sent to the hospital bloody and crying while you somehow managed to come out of the fight with only a scratch to the eye. That'll teach him to try and push you away from the squat rack  (will that story work?)

PERFECT!

Now back to that rum & coke!

Nice talk...Now let's be action gals...
I'll have mine here... :chomp:

Well if you didn't get one today, then I poured you one in spirit! I had 2 tonite. Mostly out of boredom. I grilled some killer chicken & made a taco salad, except I ate all the jalapenos already w/ my fish dip earlier today. :(

Figured today was a bust anyway because the community center gym was closed.

Tomorrow -- hittin' it hard. :)

I love to hear you being a little naughty!...
I had two glasses of red wine...and some bread...just a palm size....
When things are just out of oven or grill...man I can be worse than cookie monster...LOL.
Levaing for park, weights alter..Marco 11, has his 6th grade graduation today...post pic later. LOVE YA! :rainbow:

Sassy, where in AL are you? If I had known, I could have come picked you up in my boat and shown you where the party is! And yep, the party spots on the AL coast got wiped out by Ivan the Terrible, Dennis the Menace and Katrina the B***h.

There were some nice fireworks in southeast AL. We sat on the beach and watched. :)

Damn, I'm jealous!!!! :)

I love the Gulf Coast. The beach is much prettier (and warmer water) than the east side. Yep, totally jealous!

I'm in Orange Beach (Gulf Shores) right now -- actually the condo is right on a marina across from the bridge between Perdido Beach & Orange Beach. Unfortunately the building blocked out all of the fireworks last nite. I stayed in & watched Apocolypse Now.

The plate - have you ever seen those dumbbells w/ several individual plates in them &then you dial the setting on the sides to the weight you want and it locks in the individual plates to total the amount you dialed in? Well, the dial slipped on one side & the DB was right above my face - the plate fell out & hit the side of my eye. I sort of have 1/2 a black eye right now w/ a cut under my eyebrow.

I'm still partial to the E side of S. Florida - the diving can't be beat. For all intents & purposes, diving doesn't exist in the Gulf....

I felt pretty stupid for letting that happen - at that point I decided I'll stick to the weights at the local community center gym instead of the NordicTrak Specials in the condo "fitness center". God. "Civilization" = where Gold's Gym is....

Luckily it doesnt' look that bad at all but the swelling keeps making me feel like I have somethign haning just above my eye. At least it doesn't look like "Rocky" when he's yelling "Yooo Adriennnn".

That should be fun! (With some challenges... !)

Hit the local gym tonite:

Diet: eh -- after yesterday, just not eating much today.

One comment I'll make is that I junked a bit yesterday but today the bi / tri & calf pumps were ridiculous to the point that it hurt to do any major contractions on Tri DB kickbacks.

Training: chest & tris
Warm up - 5 min treadmill

Super (chest):
- incline press: bar/20 bar + 25 each side/15 x 3
- incline DB fly: 15/20 20/15 x 3
Super (chest):
- Cable x-over: 30/15 x 3
- pushups: 15 x 3
Super (tris):
- cable press down: 110/15 x 3
- DB kickbacks: 15/15 x 3
Tri dips: body/10 x 3

Cardio: 15 min stepper + 20 min treadmill + 30 min elliptical

Hi J.bean

Hey Hun :) LOL I just had such fun memories of the potato incident at the Westin last May.... :)

How's stuff? Damn seems like so much has happened since we were all in ATL last yr. Now I'm trying to get the hell out....

Now I"m trying to do I don't even know what....

But it involves lighter weights & more cardio ... as evidenced by...

Diet - eh not worried about it - less food in general. Just a little bit of junking -- mostly involving having taco salads for dinner (nothing exciting spinach + tomato + grilled turrkey burgers + salsa) w/ maybe 1/4 c of crunched up taco chips on it -- and I get the sickest damn calf, tri & bi pumps off this shit.

Training:

AM: 55 min cardio = 15 min treadmill + 40 min elliptical

PM: back & bis
5 min stair master warm up
Smith barbell rows: bar/20 25/15 35/15 45/15
1 arm DB rows: 55/15 60/12 65/12
cable rows (med grip): 90/15 105/12 x 2
Super (bis):
- ezbar 21's: 45/21 55/21 x 2
- DB hammer curls: 25/7+20/5+15/5+10/8 x 3
High cable bis: 30/15 x 3

55 min cardio: 15 min stairmaster + 15 min treadmill + 25 min bike

7/7/06 (Fri)
=========

Diet - still keeping to fewer meals, relatively tight - not too worried about it

Training:

PM: legs
5 min stairmaster warm up
Squats: bar/20 25/15 35/15 50/15
Smith DLs: bar/20 25/15 50/15 x 2
Leg curl: 90/15 x 3
Reverse hypers: 5 + 10 (5 pulse) + 5 x 3
Super:
- leg press (wide stance) + calf press: 45^4/10 + 40 x 3
- leg ext: 90/15 x 3
Standing Abductor:90/15 x 3
Standign Kick / extension: 180/15 x 3

Cardio: 15 min stairmaster + 15 min bike

7/8/06 (Sat)

Diet: -- same comment as above with the addition of a med bag of popcorn while sitting thru Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

Training: Today I poked around on the weightlifting board for a new approach and also because I didn't feel like forking over the $5 daily fee to train at the local community center gym. Earlier in the day I was laying out by the pool reading the training journal of the girl in the Fat to Figure article I posted here. And while I was laying on my stomach on the deck chair, my lower back was screaming in agony from the sort of hyperextended angle I was lying at. That pretty much reminded me just how touchy my lower back still is. Seriously time to work on my core strength & stability but I just don't know how. When I get into somethign I really like to get into it & I want to learn some new things, so I'm still poking. I got some great suggestions and still exploring.

Anyway tonite I did the following:

I've been digging thru the Vault, elitefts.com & t-nation for stuff and couldn't remember all the places where I saw things I wanted to try, so I started w/ the warm-up cycle from here: http://www.aceathlete.com/hatch/video.htm. I'm at the parents' condo and the "fitness room" consists of a weider Universal machine, a couple cheesie cardio machines and this set of Bowflex DBs (the kind where you dial the weight you want & it locks in the plates to add up to that amount. I've already had one of the dials slip & drop a 2 lb plate on my face.... ).

So as best I could remember:

10 min treadmill warm up

Dynamic stretching:
- high knee run - forward, backward
- butt kick - fwd, bkwd
- side step over thingy
- high kick
- threw in some karate side kicks & L & R

Static stretching:
- touch toes straight legs
- touch toes , cross over
- quad stretch
- abs - 20 crunches + 20 oblique crunches x 2 + legs straight up in the air "climb the rope" crunches
- ab stretch ("downward dog") + cat stretch ("child pose" from yoga)
- arms across front stretch
- tri stretch

LOL -- forgot his sequence of the straight bar exercise...

Instead I did:
- 1 arm DB clean & press - 10x, each side (20 lb DBs)

*** And then my shoulder started to hurt - so I threw in 2 rounds of my rotator warm up w/ DBs, and then continued ****
- DBs squat clean - 10 x
- DB DLs - 10 x

20 min elliptical

After that I had a pounch of tuna + spinach salad for dinner (nothing left in the house at this point) and my legs felt sooo freekin' full...

Anyway - will expand on these thoughts as I dig up some more info and also get back to the "real gym".

This may sound so 10 years' ago to you but this is what I think of when I consider the core strengthening and especially since you say sore back...
I think if you are laying in a lounge chair and your back is already sore... then maybe it's not such a great idea to take on weights with (the low back) and instead put it through more of a physical therapy type routine to strengthen it up more. Ie. Bridge, plank, quadruped, pelvic tilts, etc... After you can do like 8 or 9 different floor exercises for like a count of 25 with no pain then start adding some weight in. I nkow the stability ball is not a favorite of everyone, but for me and all the back issues I have that is one loevely addition that has made me able to do crunches and lower ab work by positioning it between my ankles and doing leg lifts. The other two key components that I have done would be yoga, and pilates. All of that together has made it able for me to do weighted hypers at the gym where I never EVER was able to do one non-weighted one before. It seems that if you don't want to pay the gym membership all that I listed can be done at home with a relatively low cost if you don't have the stuff,(Ball, pilates DVD, yoga DVD) I definitely have a few favorites. Don't knock Denise Austin on this one... Her pilates DVD is actually pretty good following the Winsor pilates. Her yoga one's are not bad either. This would be just a start that you could follow up with a hot shower, hot tub, anything to help relax the muscles because they will be tight. Obviously you know about stretching. No matter how short you are on time give yourself at least 5 minutes. The other is sleep position. How do you sleep? Or do you not sleep? ;) Laying on your back feet bent and propped up on 2-3 pillows helps alleviate the pain off the low back, and is the optimal sleep position. Believe me... you screw with the low back and it gets pissed you won't be walking... Been there.

So I guess from someone who has experienced low back pain to the point of tears and not walking that is what I did. Not sure if that helps, or not or what but that's my .02 cents back at you for what it's worth :)

Thx hun - I am aware of all of it, been there, done all of it. I'm just saying yesterday was a particular situation that I do about once every 3 yrs so I'm not really worried about it.

Anyway I'm trying a lot of different things that are all limited and / or driven by my current work situation adn just trying to make it thru the day. I'm looking for a combination of something that "does it" for me. Still workign on it.

OK after some research got a new plan of attack re: training. I hope it doesnt' get sporadic as I'm traveling the next week or two, but we'll see.

Also, I don't know what internet access I'll have in the next few days, so if I fall off the planet, as long as you didnt' hear about an earthquake around LA, I didn't actually fall off the planet.

General approach: 3x/week, at least 1 day between each session & cardio on the opposite days.
- 5 min cardio
- 10-15 min dynamic warmup
- static stretching
- 3 x 10 squat move --- warm up w/ overhead squats, then a variation of std squat
- 3 x 10 press move --- e.g. std bench press -- anything upper body is preceded by a rotator cuff warm up
- 3 x 10 pull move - e.g. rows
- upper back / shoulder work
- abs
20+ min cardio

7/12/06 (Wed):
===========
5 min elliptical warmup
10 min step mill for dynamic warmup -- side steps, side kicks, rear kicks, calf raises, knee raises, butt kicks, etc.
10 min static stretches
overhead squats:
- 20 lb EZ bar: 20/10 x 3 -- mostly for form
- 30 lb EZ bar: 30/10 x 2 -- form still good
- 40 lb EZ bar: 40/10 x 2 -- form still good
- squat bar: 40/10 x 2 -- yay! didn't tip over!
ATF Squats w/ 10 lb plates under heels:
- bar/15
- 10/15 = bar + 20 = 60 lb
- 20/15 x 2 = bar + 40 = 80 lb
Rotator cuff warm up -- cable in / out: 5/20(4) x 2
flat bench press - a la PL -- elbows close in, press from lower
- bar/15
- 10/15 = bar + 20 = 60 lb
- 25/15 x 2 = bar + 50 = 90 lb
Cable side laterals: 5/6 x 6
Abs:
- Needsize Abs: 15 x 3 (decline bench, decline crunches hold each contraction for 5 ct)
- fitball abs alt lower abs, upper abs: 25 + 25 x 3
- cable kneeling crunches + obliques: 140/10 + 10 x 3
Post cardio: 10 min stepper (HIIT) + 10 min elliptical

Top Bottom
