I totally agree with all you , it's really sad as it makes more sense to squat DL etc as It sends our own GH round our body by doing so. They are two of the best growing lifts.
I've just started doing deadlifts.. and I'm in love... I really look forward to doing them, and squats as well.. they are tough but good
At my gym heaps of guys use the leg press, a few use the smith machine, and no-one does squats in the rack except me..
But there is one guy who's just started that's squatting with the permanently weighted bars - only super light but trying to get the tecnique right - good on him!!!
When I started lifting my upper body was so weak that I was embarrassed to lift in front of people. I found out quickly that my lower body was much stronger so I became motivated to squat.
It's this way at my gym too! There plenty of 200lb men walking around with nice upper bodies, but their skinny legs makes them look like they're riding a chicken!
I look forward to squats! It's the only thing that keeps my arse up where it's supposed to be! I think it would be hanging at knee level if I didn't squat!

Tough to describe the feeling for a guy like me to be complimented by a girl for squatting 135 while shes doing 225 in the rack next door. LOL. Admiration but also a bit of humiliation. I wonder what shes thinking about me??
