Opening Ampules

Well if you are not a tool guy this is probally out of the question. I use a dremel(sp), it is a small tool similar to a drill. I take all the amps that im going to use on a cycle, then put a cuting disk (about 3/4 inch) on. I then turn it on low speed, take each amp and make one quick lap with the disk around the neck of the amp. This scores the amp perfectly. You can then pop them in your hand with no worries.

What do you use to open can food ?? Jigsaw?? lol!!
As long as you are having fun and getting in to that goody juice Thats all that counts MGuyver! Your way sounds more fun than the file method!!

Thanks for all the advice guys. Got one open tonight with a steak knife. The cap shattered, but the vial was ok - and no broken glass got inside. So I am good to go until I get a file.

heres a trick i havent seen posted......use the hold in a cassette tape....and snap....works great for me!

To break a ampul properly, the ampul neck is cleansed with a alcohol swab and, leaving the swab in place, the ampul is grasp with one hand on the each side of the neck, between the thumb and index finger. A quick, firm, snapping motion is then exerted away from oneself, as if breaking a pencil.
To withdrawl medication from an ampul, the ampul should be tilted and the bevel of the needle in the corner space near the opening. Surface tension should keep the solution from spilling out of the ampul. Then syringe plunger is then pulled back to withdrawl the solution.

The possibility that glass or paint chips may fall into the solution when an ampul is broken requires the use of a filter in the prep, process. Usually, the medication is withdrawn from the ampul with a regular needle and then the needle is changed to a filtered needle before pushing drug out of the syringe.

This may be more than you wanted, but any time you inject foreign substances into the bloodstream you should be aware of proper precautions.

The filter is probably be overkill since most steroid soln. vary from 100mg to 200mg+ per mL. Since some of you guys are having trouble getting syringes I guess filters are out of question.

Hey- get a small file, file on the bottom of the thinest part of the amp. Until it cracks alittle. THan take a paper towel and break it off. works for me

well the other day i just took a pair of plyers and squeezed the very top of them amp! it worked perfectly! lol!

i got those nile sust they do suck i had duratest b4 they were so easy 2 open i usualy get a little file go around the thin part a couple of times then it breaks off easyand the glassdoesnt shatter

Those Sten amps do collapse easily. File works best, heck Ive even taken a piece of 80 grit sand paper and folded it to make an edge and scored away. Practice makes perfect.
