Olympic Lifts are awesome!
I'm currently on a 2 week layoff from weights.
Anway I got bored so I did some shoulder dislocates with a wooden staff. I've been trying to do a full overhead squat for a while, but no luck. Anyway I tried it this afternoon and boom I got it!. Its like it just popped into palce. I think I was controlling the wrong msucles and having tension in the wrong place, but as soon relaxed, everything feel into place.
I got a bit carried away and hauled my brother's barbell set out, and loaded up 10 lbs onto and starting hang snatching with a drop. Boom easy, then the power snatch, no problem. And finally a proper OL style snatch with full squat - bingo. Its like I've always knew how to do it!
Then I tried the the Hang clean and power clean. They were easy too. So I went full hog and did a full squat clean and jerk OL style. No problem as well! To ice the cake, I did some Split style OL snatches, and carried them off as well.
In fact I had so much fun I went on to do 30 mins of continous lifts. Now this is a HITT workout! I think this may even be better than interval sprints![Wink ;) ;)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png)
Damn do your quads feel it in the when your doing em, but right now I can feel it in my hammies and gluites too. My whole body actually.
Can't wait to go back to gym and use more weight next week!
I much prefer the snatch over the clean. Just feels smoother and more effortless. But the thing that suprised me was that I had enough flexibility to pull the lifts off. All that cuff work and shoulder/chest/bicep stretching on doorways no doubt helped, as has my full front squats.
Maybe I was a OL in a past life?
I recommend you guys trying them if you can. Not only are they fun, but they look cool as well, and not many people in gyms are gonna be doing em. You get great functional flexibility, core strength and explosiveness too. Your vertical jump and sprinting accleration will get a big boost as well!
