Hi Everyone...

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot. Im 23 yrs old and have been into wrking out since about age 16. Prior to the last few months I almost completley stopped wht training and just did cardio due to lack of time (Im a full time uni student and have 2 jobs). I have decided to get back into it (weight trainging) hardcore and I am considering possibly doing some fitness modelling and/or competing for a fitness competition (modelling). I think this will help me focus and really wrk towards my goals. I do live in Canada so Im not too sure about the different shows but I knw FAME is one that also has a category for fitness modelling.

A few question I have are...whats the best way to go about getting involved in some of these events or contacting an agency (if there one) for fitness modelling...and also what do they look for specifcally in terms of physique? I am very lean and I know need to gain a bit of mus wht b4 I do this but I need to knw what Im working towards. I am about 5'5-5'6 and only 110 lbs of pretty much all muscle. I look like I weigh alot more then that however b/c I am small boned and still have curves (I still have a butt and boobs but a small waist). Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! Thanks so much everyone and Im excited to have joined here...

Welcome, FC!! :)

Sounds like you need to put on a little weight. You're VERY skinny (my daughter has the same build and is a hardgainer). What does your diet look like? Also, get some training with weights in there and keep your protien intake up. If you're lean...you can probably afford to relax a bit on the cardio.

I'm not into the competition stuff, but 24K, Sassy and a few of the other girls can help you with that.

Good luck with your goals - and welcome, again!:wavey:

Miss24K can give some feedback on FAME & fitness modeling. I'm an NPC competitor in the US. I compete at 25 lbs heavier than you are at 5'7" and I would say I have a lot of muscle -- it sounds like you are very lean -- that may work great for fitness modeling but competition may require more muscle.

Thanks so much ladies! I know I def need to gain some weight (lean muscle of course) and this is a long term goal for me so I realize it will take some time. I have been 122 lbs with about 14% bf b4 and looked awesome. Im hoping to get there again in time. Im about 20-30 mins from the Toronto area however I go to school out of town. Im a Kinesiology major so I pretty much knw what Im doing however you can never learn or know too much!

One of my biggest problems with gaining weight for me (with the structure of my body) is that its more so in my lower body and makes me look even bigger b/c I have a 22 inch waist (regardless of my wht). I knw you can not spot reduce or vice versa but any tips? How much protein do u think I sud be taking in if Im trying to gain weight? what would be a good weight for my height? is 115-117 too light still? (I knw it really has a lot to do with the physique/shape of my body not the number weight but just out of curiousity. I knw for the avg person (for women) its 0.8 g of protein/lb of body wht....but I think I need more then this to reach my goals. I eat really healthy and wrkout usualy 6 days a week. An 1-1.5 hrs of whts each day and usually 30-45 mins of cardio (Im an addict! It relieves stress for me). I split my days up and try to lift as heavy as possible with 8-12 reps. Depending on what my focus is....lower body I do more reps and upper body fewer with heavier whts. I also do 4-5 exercises for each body part and 3-4 sets (the first setsometimes as a lower wht, warmup set).

One more question-- Im sorry! Is ther any good exercises for targeting my upper hamstrings, just b4 the buttocks start? I always hold some fat right there...but I dnt want to get bigger in that area. My butt is seriously really big and round and muscular...

Any more suggestions wud greatly be appreciated.

You guys are awesome! Thank you so much!

IMHO, 8-12 reps is high for building muscle. .... lay off your lower body for awhile, just maintain what you have. Focus on upper to get some symmetry and take the focus off your bottom half. 4 or 5 sets, highest reps 10ish, I dare even say 10, myself, i would go even lower, maxing out at 8.
so like, 8,6,5,5 .... you can even go 8,6,5,4. longer rest periods between sets, like 2 minutes.. Experiment. I go very low reps and more sets, I also use Isometrics to gain strength AND size. I am not a hard gainer, I'm a hard keeper of gains... so heavy works...anyway, just my 2 pennies.

I'm in the same boat you are. Sometimes it's just genetics. I do cardio around 3-5x a week (usually). Are you logging in fitday?

Dead lifts, reverse hypers.

Also if you tend to hold bodyfat and / or water there, it just takes more dieting to get it down.

Sassy, what would you say be the ideal competition weight (figure/fitness/bikini) for someone 5'5"- 5'6"?
