How many sets do any of you guys use for small and large muscle groups? i am setting up a routine and I get burned out on high volume, I was thinking 9-12 sets for largge muscle groups and 6-8 for small? I think 12 and 8 would be to much though, lately it hasn't taken alot for me to feel sore and tired.

Also whats the best split in your opinion's, Chest/tri, back/bi, legs/shoulders?

I feel my delts on chest day, so I was thinking of putting shoulders there but then I don't know where I would put tris and I just need some insight. Thanks

what has worked for you in the past? personally, i've had good results with arms on their own day. sets would vary for me

Just trying to aviod overtraining, would doing them on a seprate day cause this? Since they are sort of worked on chest and back day?

I like to alternate higher and lower reps every couple of weeks. I figure its enough time to get into a groove, but not too much, that i start to plateau.

As for a general split, yours looks fairly traditional. I use a somewhat untraditional approach, but i have made great gains in the last year using it.

monday: Quads / Calves
Tues: Chest / Biceps

Thrs: Triceps / Back
Fri: Shoulders / Hams

Reasoning:
Quads / calves come first of the week cause they are my priority and i need to really bust them out good after a whole weekend off. Plus, after hardcore quads, i hardely have energy left for anything else.

Chest and biceps are unrelated, so neither affects the other's workout. Plus, biceps will be a little fatigure by back day, hence i will be able to concentrate on back more.

Tricpes and back together cause neither affects the other so much. I wish i didnt do tris the day before shoulders, but i guess it helps me emphasize shoulders on frid.

Shoulders and hams cause neither affects the other, plus, my legs are recovered from monday, and i can really hit hams nice.

---

Anyway, this is not to say you should use it. I have come to this after many attempted workouts and i find it works best for me in terms of continued growth. So, its just something to think about, maybe try if you dont like the more traditional.

Good luck,
-fatty

I like chest/tri, back/bi, shoulders and legs for a split.

As far a reps/sets go, I vary anywhere from 3-10 reps and 2-5 sets. As soon as a routine, or part of a routine, gets stale, I change it.

I do
Monday : Back around 11 sets
Tuesday: Chest around 9-10 sets
Wed: Abs 3-6 sets
Thurs: Shoulders and arms 5 sets for shoulders, 6-8 for the other 2
Fri:Legs 10-12 sets for the whole leg

It's been working great for me lately and all of my strength has been going up weekly...
