I'm switching my diet from eating basically what I want (in moderation) back to the 5-6 meals/day good-for-my-metabolism diet I should have just stuck too all along (darn graduation, vacation, moving and a no-appetite phase I went through...I got off track for about 6 months, luckily I only gained a few pounds from it). For some people it's best to ease into it, but I prefer to just switch over and deal with it. But of course that means about a 5 days of misery...this is day 2 and I'm in splitting headache, tired, cranky stage and the only thing really to do is suffer through it until my body adjusts. :( I wanted to hit the treadmill for my second workout that I normally do on Wednesdays, but I just feel like complete shit. And I'd kill for some chocolate right about now....

What do you ladies do when this happens? In the past I've just suffered through it...

I sulk and eat almonds.

Are you eating enough? What are you eating?
First 3-5 days is a freakin nightmare usually.

Yeah, I'm eating pelnty, more than I was not being on my diet...same diet I normally stick with, other than substituting tuna for chicken or something simple like that. For the past two days I've eaten:

meal 1: 4 egg whites + 1 whole egg, 1/4 c oatmeal (pre-cooking)
snack: protein shake, raw green peppers
meal 3: 4 oz grilled chicken, 1/2 c brown rice, broccoli
meal 4: 4 oz grilled chicken, 1/2 a sweet potato, spinach
meal 5: protein shake, green beans
snack (optional): 1 tbsp ANPB, celery

1-1.5 gallons of water throughout the day and a can or two of diet soda

plus I've kept a small snack bag of almonds handy everywhere I go, along with plenty of raw green veggies in the fridge to snack on if I'm still hungry. I don't really count calories--if I'm hungry, or I have a longer workout (or more activity, like 18 holes of golf) planned, I eat more.

My head is just killing me....I thought about also cutting out the diet soda (since it is nothing but chemicals) but I've never bothered to before and I can't live without my diet cherry pepsi in the morning. LOL. I'd just be even more miserable without it. Chocolate, I can live without. But not my diet soda.

So it sounds like when you switch to this diet you go thru a couple of days of "detoxing" that causes the headaches?

Just for craps & giggles you should try cutting out the soda for a few weeks. I bet you notice a difference! You can substitute stuff like Crystal Lite & lots of water. Every time I start contest prep I have to cut it out. Sometimes its hard, other times I think diet coke is really only good for cleaning corrosion off your car batteries...

Sounds like Sassy's right about the detox.

3-5 days you'll be fine - just keep reminding yourself the faster you get through it the less pain you will feel.

Mythbusters busted that myth....water cleans a car battery just as well as the diet soda....and it doesn't dissolve a tooth either.... ;)

I thought about cutting out the diet soda, but one thing at a time...the lack of caffeine will make me even more miserable.

I did cut it out once during college (and all other caffeine sources) and really didn't notice a huge difference. I usually only have one can a day (plus a ton of water), so it's not like I'm having a lot of it...but if I don't have it in the morning, I get wicked headaches. (I don't do coffee.)

I get like that the first week I cut out sugar and processed junk...go easy on yourself workout wise for the first week...

I actually never stopped working out the past few months even though my diet went crappy, but I have eased up a little this week since I've felt like total shit. Remind me never to get off my diet again...
