My first attempt at training like a strongwoman...

Night Fly

New member
Okay...here goes. I got a workout program that should help me focus on the muscles that I really need for the strongwoman contests. I am going to compete in May for the first time ever.

I have a feeling I am going to get laughed at when I post this...but just bear with me. It was my first time. Hopefully they will get better after this...lol.

This was my workout today.

Deadlifts 3 sets of 8

15 X bar
8 X 135
8 X 185
8 X 205

Shrugs 3 sets of 8
135 lbs

Glute Ham Raises
2 sets of 10 (OUCH)

Seated Rows 3 sets of 8-10

2 sets with 90 lbs
1 set with 100 lbs.

Bi curls (bb) 4 sets X 6-8 ( I have REALLY weak bis...so go ahead and laugh)

Bar
55 lbs. for the last 3 sets

Weighted Abs

I tried to do the dumbbells like the farmers walk. I grabbed the 80 lbs db and took a really hard stroll around the gym with them. That was a lot of weight for me...good gosh.

Okay....that is it. Nothing too impressive. Just figured that I would post it up to get some criticism or motivation...whichever one you all feel like giving.

I will be sitting in on Jill Mill's lecture at OSU this week. I will be sure to pass on any valuable training tips.

I would love to switch from BB to PL someday. Hannibal has added goodmornings to my reg to restrengthen my lower back, and it's doing wonders. Talk to him about bands and core training. He's really helping me recover fast.

...and keep me posted. Strength is so much more fun than size.

;) Don't tell!

I love good mornings, too....they are awesome.

Please do give me some tips. I would love to be there and listen to her. She is the one who actually gave me the program, though...lol. I am not anywhere near needing bands, but I know that he knows a lot about them.

Strength is SO much more fun than size...I will agree with you there. You seem to have the strength to do it, girl! :)

Jill is very motivating and a very humble woman to boot. She is so nice and considerate..hehe..and a hottie too. Sorry Nighty..hehe...you know it is true:)

Be sure and tell her that Clint said hello. She was awesome last weekend in Boston.

I´m also interested in strongwoman competitions.
Do you people know good links?
I have found some pages of Jill Mills but I´d like to read/know more.

I'm kinda confused, you are training almost every major muscle group in that routine - so how many days a week would you do that? Would you do any sort of 'training split'?

When getting close to a contest...you spend almost no time in the gym doing regular lifts. You slowly step away from the gym and do events only.

She is focusing on her back, hams, glutes, etc...in this routine. There will be a day for squats as well as one for pressing movements (mostly incline or standing overhead).

Go to The Anvil at the following link. We are looking to really get a group of women together to start an amat women's class for contests. Here is the link http://pub54.ezboard.com/ftheanvil88051frm1

Like B fold said...I was focusing on back, glutes, and hams that workout. I threw some bi curls in there also. I will workout in the gym 3 days a week...and then in about a month and a half or so (or maybe before, I don't know) I will put a 4th day in there for my events. I've got 2 more days to get the rest of my body in this week. It's quite a bit different than bodybuilding training, and it has already been a huge adjustment! :) I enjoy it, though...it's fun!

Not laughing here! We all start somewhere and you got the balls to compete. So my hat is off to you. I am no strong man but have been training for 17+ years if I can be of any help e-mail me! Good Luck

I don't have any tips for ya, but think that's awesome that you're competing....if I come across anything that might help I'll pass it along.

Go get 'em!
