Military training?

They've been doing the DEP thing for decades Db.
Some have little study books for Ranks, History ect. that they have to get signed off and can gain 1 or 2 ranks higher from E-1 to E-3, Along with passing PT standards before BootCamp.

Okay, my last close up experience with anyone joining the military was when my brother joined the Navy in 1970, right after the first draft lottery. If he hadn't joined up, he would have been drafted within the week, and sent to Vietnam. At that time, they just scraped him off jump street and sent him straight to boot camp.

crappy. Didd he come back Okay? Vietnam was a horror fest. The Navy was "generally" saved from the worst of Nam.

Joining the Navy kept him stateside. He spent the Vietnam years at Millington TN and Norfolk VA, at the NAS. Later he served in Irving TX, Miramar NAS in San Diego, Philadelphia, and Chicago. And a few months at Mildenhall in England.

I bet shirl hid jelly donuts in her footlocker

no, but I did hide my cell phone in my bra the entire time I was in basic..I hid the charger in a dryer vent on my floor and would charge it doing laundry :)

and as for my fatty-ness

I wasn't..I weigh a lot ...my kids weigh a lot.. we're all densely built...idk what to tell ya

Its called pre-basic training; its not mandatory but if u arrive at basic and got ur checklist completed u make rank; (ie. Pass your pt test, know your liniage, military alphabet, rank structure for enlisted and officers; and a few other things..) been available since at least 05' but not mandatory, jus reccommended and u get a pay increase so why the fuck not if ur govmt. property anyway, might as well get paid

what java said ^^ ..my scheduling had more to do with an opening in my AIT and the fact that I skipped the first 8 weeks of AIT having enlisted under the CASP program (ie I was already a licensed medic beforehand/ no need to waste everyones time)

learning the ranking system and D&C ahead of time helped me not waste a lot of time thinking about that shit in BCT
and truth be told..it saved my ass with running because I didnt run and hated running before hand and always sucked shit with distance running
theyve changed it to your recruiter does a pt test on you to see where you're at

I was a pt studette by the time I got to basic

if it makes you feel better plunkey I always had to be taped for the bmi test because I weigh a gazillion lbs

I actually defended Shirlene...don't ever claim I hate you...:)

For the record, u actually got a year from enlistment date to ship to basic; they jus rush the shit outta u and make it real urgent if your not in college or have prior commitment; basicly until u arrive at zero week u can back out, even tho it doesnt seem possible; by pushing u faster gives u less time to think it thru and therefore less time to find a way out if u change ur mind..

I'm old..I went through BCT in 1989...back then you could negotiate yourself E-3 rank with a good ASVAB score or college credits and expressing a desire to change your mind.

I was that dumbass that just enlisted and started at E-1.

I went into Basic in better shape than I came out.

I was there 2 weeks before I heard the work "push-up". AF basic was only 6 weeks long then.

I lost 17 lbs, but it wasn't from anything strenuous, they didn't give you much time to eat.

We played maid everyday. Make the bed, D.I. would rip it apart and we'd make it again ... sometimes this went on for hours.
