Military training and low-carb dieting

The Nuke

Hey all you fitness experts, I have a question that's been on my mind for awhile. Would a low-carb diet be a good idea for someone whose training involves a lot of running and calisthenics? I'm getting ready for basic training and I'm running every day, as well as doing PT (Push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups) 3x a week. I'm also swimming as often as I can, which is 4-6 times a week.

Would I be able to lose a bit of weight on a low-carb diet but still have the energy for all this cardio? I'm 6', 185 pounds and I'd like to drop down to 170-175 before I head into boot camp, with minimal muscle loss. I've read somewhere that a typical military diet is very high in carbs and low in protein. What do you guys think?

imo a low carb diet is a bad idea for that type of life, you will have low energy and constantly be in a bad mood. at least I would be..

I think you'll do fine at 185, especially since you're swimming and running. As a matter of fact, I know you will. Don't worry about losing the 10 lbs.
