Hi girls, I have problem , Is it almost over 1 year I missing my period, do you have someone or had this problem what causes it? It's true that during last 2 years I lost 25 pounds, I workout 5x week and if you know my calorie intake is between 1200-1300 calor. Now I decided built muscle and increase it...so gain muscle. I was at the doctor 6 months ago and he told me that I'm thin..your therapy was...I took birth cont. pills ...so because of I have normal period...but now I stopp take BP and I don't know if my menstru. comeing.
Did you have this problem? what have I doing?? Is it usual by womens who workout hard? I would like have in future baby will be it problem?? I'm afraid.

Hey, yeah it is not unusual for a woman to have her period slow down or even stop once she starts to work out pretty heavily. Alot of professioal athletes stop having their period or have them less frequently. This is usually due to a womans body fat droping. It isn't something to be too worried about. It will not cause you a problem with having a baby down the road, eventually you will probably start having your period again, maybe, once your body gets used to your activities. I hope that helps some. And not having you period is okay, i am on the depo shot and i don't have mine , my doc knows that i don't and it isn't an issue. When it is time for you to have a baby you body will do what it needs to.

Its pretty normal for wome to lose thier periods when thier bodyfat drops below a certain percentage. Loss of mensturation can cause a lot of problems later in life, because it means that your body is no longer producing the right hormones to keep your body healthy. It can cause fertility problems, and problems like osteoperosis (bone density loss).

It might just be that your body is readjusting, and it may well come back shortly. But it might be a good idea to check with a doctor just to make sure. Also its a good idea to make sure that you are getting enough calcium (either from dairy or suppliment), vitamin D, and B vitamins to keep your bones healthy ;)

Prior to using birth control did you ever have interruptions in your menstrual cycle before? Some people just have irregular cycles. I don't think you have mentioned being on any AS, (correct?) - so no interruptions would be resulting from that. I agree with the above - if you have dropped below a certain bodyfat level, your period may disappear. This happened to me when I dropped below 12% bodyfat while preparing for a competition. When my bodyfat went back post-show, I returned to normal.

Do you know what your bodyfat is now? It sounds like you are very slim and that would be my first guess at the source of the interruption.

Keliska - I haven't had a period in 6 months either, since I started dieting and working out even harder, so you aren't alone. I am actually enjoying it though! I do still get the symptoms of PMS - being irritable, getting pimples - but just no period. Just how low is your body fat? So, did you say you're getting your period now that you are on pills? Pills regulate your flow, it's perfectly normal to not menstruate every month when you aren't on the pill. Studies show that BCP's cause women to menstruate far more than they would naturally anyway, and remember our bodies also change throughout life. When I was a teenager my periods and cramps were so bad I would be up all night curled in a ball rocking myself!! Past 8 years or so, it's nothing like that. I wouldn't worry....

I agree with you ladies, I haven't had a period in about 4 months, I was paranoid that i was pregnant but i now know It's because of my pills and hard workouts everday. Yeah, for now I'm just gonna enjoy not having a period.

If you were taking birth control pills for a number of months and recently stopped, it can take up to one year for your period to return, regardless of any training or diet factors.

make sure you include healthy fats in your diet. I didn't have mine for 2years. Actually my BF level was so low so the doctor told me to gain weight. I'm currently getting back into shape and on a diet, but this time I will make sure I get more than enough healthy fats. I've heard from several people that as long as you do that you might be able to maintain your period even when you're low BF. I know the other people here say you shouldn't worry but I know the feeling- and your body is telling you that something is not right.. so be careful!
