Yes, I had PT today.....

Went in with 118 degrees flex & +2 on the extension.....Need to come in, consistently at 0 to be able to NOT have to do the Prone Hang - this "exercise" if you want to call it that, I call it torture, is a real killer......OMG it's awful!!

I was able to also pass the foot dexterity test.....you sit on a low bench & you tap your foot back & forth across a 4" high stick....You need to be able to do 15 in 10 seconds to be allowed to drive. Well, I did 31....

Went to the Dr. today also - and I'm OFF the crutches!! Yay!! Can't do any load-bearing squats or load-bearing closed chain exercises. So walking will entail wearing a brace - which if I can keep the swelling down, will be my Donjoy with a sleeve underneath it......

Aww thats great news about how well the PT went... looks like you kicked that 15 right in the butt since you just about doubled it with your 31 :) Impressive!!! And congrats on not needing those stinkin crutches anymore too woo hooo!

During any exercise regiment, whether for rehabilitation purposes or for strengthening purposes, there are two types of Kinetic Chain Exercises used. The first is Open Kinetic Chain Exercises (OKCE). These exercises are performed typically were the foot is free to move. These exercises are typically non-weight bearing, with the movement occurring at the knee joint (4). If there is any weight applied it is applied to the distal portion of the limb. Examples of these exercises would be knee extensions and straight leg raises. OKCE concentrates on a strong quadricep contraction, which will strengthen the quadriceps and restore quadricep power output (8).

The second exercise used is Closed Kinetic Chain Exercise (CKCE). CKCE are performed where the foot is fixed and cannot move. The foot remains in constant contact with the surface, usually the ground or the base of a machine (8). These exercises are typically weight bearing exercises, where an athlete or patient uses their own body weight and/ or external weight. When external weight is added it is usually rested across the back of the shoulders or the front of the chest. Examples of these exercises would be the Squat (both front and back), Leg Press, Lung, Power Clean, and Snatch. CKCE concentrates on a co-contraction of the quadriceps, hamstrings, hip flexors, soleus, and gastrocnemius muscles (9). Also this is a multi-joint movement, which focuses on the knee, hip, and ankle. CKCE are labeled as being "sport specific movements" (11).
