Hello all!

since I am in college, I am unable to have meat and rice as my food. I don't have time, i got only 10 minute breaks to eat my stuff.

So recently I decided to drink soy milk. (I cant dink regular milk 6 liters or so in one day without some serious runs).

I noticed that Soy has a lot of sugars. So my question is:

Is that sugar like real sugar or like milk sugar (even though it is sugar it doesn't increase your blood sugar levels, LOW GI) .

read between the lines: Is it good substitute of complex carbs or it just makes me fat. (I try to eat few pieces of bread to for complex carbs)

reply please!

thanks!@

Whole, unadulterated soy milk has only 4-5 grams of carbs per cup. Any more than this is just added sugar (often high fructose corn syrup) to make it taste better. Whole soy milk also has around 5 grams of fat, and only 7 grams of protein per cup. Of course there are also fortified soy milks, fat reduced, etc.....

Read the ingredients label and see if it's got lots of c**p added to it or not. Aside from that, 6 liters a day sounds excessive and unbalanced. Surely you could carry around some real, whole foods with you??

I dont have time to eat whole foods! Thats the big problem!

sucks! how do people manage to eat in college? (time wise)

After you've read those psuedo-scientific attempts at slandering soy milk I suggest you read this thread in it's entirety http://209.11.101.244/forum/showthread.php?threadid=65913.

I will summarize (since I know most of you won't read it) that there is no sound evidence that soy milk is detrimental to male health, and there is some real evidence that it is good for men (and women of course).

Soy milk in moderation is a good food. However I am puzzled by all of these college students who claim they don't have time to eat. All I can say is bullocks. You'll never have more time to eat than when you're at college. Try fitting lots of meals in when you've got a real job where the boss doesn't understand the need to eat every 3 hours! You have 5 minutes between classes? 10 minutes? You are coordinated enough to walk while you eat? Just prepare all your food the night before and carry it with you. You can even freeze meal size portions of, for instance, chicken and veggies in a microwaveable container. These meals will keep all day even in hot weather and all you need is to shove them in a microwave for a minute, or eat them cold.

soy in excess is certainly not good for men
but soy milk is a good alternative to regular milk
ONLY if there is no added sugar in it and if it is calcium enriched

Be careful to read the label. Some of these soy milks that are avaiable in supermarkets are essentially "shakes" with alot of additives.
