I think his diet would work fine. There are so many though. The basics are just you need to find out what your TDEE is. You can find a site for this easy online. Then you need to find out how much your eating. You might be eating too much below it and have killed your matabolism. Either way you should be about 500 calories below that when cutting, or what's even better is just to drop it about 20 - 25%. Eat clean, cardio, and you didn't mention weight training which you should add and you should be on your way. It takes time so be patient. Don't be too hard on yourself if you cheat, cheating is good as long as it's in moderation like 1 or 2 meals a week. Also, if you drink that should pretty much be cut down a lot too. Good luck.
