Hey there guys. I posted on the picture thread like a dummy, not realizing that this thread was here.
It was a great workout. Everyone did really well, and everyone hit PRs.
I am very happy to report that my elbows are just fine today. I know it was kinda difficult to understand what happened by the prior post on the subject so I will try to explain what happened. I say try, cause I am not entirely sure myself what happened.
Worked up to around 315 or 365 (can't remember for sure) to the chest and then went to the boards. We used 3 and 2 boards. Everything was going great. Nailed some weights for triples up into the mid 400's and everything felt good, threw on my tight shirt around 500ish and hit that off a 3 board, felt good.
Then I really wanted to take a run at a full press with 550. So loaded up 550 on a 2 board, got it, and then tried 550 to the chest. Well, I really wanted to get the bar down fast cause it seems like I have been taking way too long to get the bar down. That sounds great in theory, but when you are a dumbass like me, it can be a bit dangerous. What I did to get the bar down fast, was to relax my upper body.
Well, boys and girls, it turns out that relaxing while you have over a quarter ton in your hands is not a great idea. That may not be shocking news to some of you. I have usually stayed really tight and fought the weight down, and this time I did not. The last 10 inches on the way down looked like I dropped the bar on video. It came down way fast, and as the bar hit my chest, it felt like both elbows exploded right where the brachialis tendon attaches to the forearm.
Fortunately my team of cracker-jack spotters were there to take it, and after a few scary minutes where I was not sure whether I was fucked up or not, everything was fine. Finished the workout no problems, and feel just fine today.
Just gotta work on doing everything perfect every time. Also, I have been wondering if my muscle strength has not been maybe outrunning my tendon and ligament strength. I hope this was a fluke, but it has me thinking now.
