fiber post wO

I add 1/2 cup of oatmeal to my PW shake. several people have told me its not a good idea to have too much fiber right after a workout. But i would think that A)fiber is never a bad thing, B) the benefits from the cars in the oatmeal would far outweigh the detriments of fiber. any who here is my shake tell me what you think......

240z 1% milk
1 scoop probolic SR Chocolate protien powder
2 tblsp ANPB
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 banana

Lotso cals carbs protien and fat.......wut could be wrong w/ that

man, not to sound mean, but that PWO shake looks seriously wrong:

1. Milk based: most people will go with water, since milk has sugar (lactose) and reduces the absorbtion speed of the protein.

2. Banana: You need a fast acting carb, one that go to replenish muscle glycogen and not liver glycoen as fruits do: Dextrose and Maltodextrine are the key here.

3. ANPB: So you are spiking your insuline and having fat at the same time??? Bad idea...

Simply put, the ultimate PWO shake is simply: Whey (preferably hidrolized or isolate), dextrose and maltodextrine.

on the bright side, I am sure your PWO shake tastes better than mine...

Not mean @ all. I like to know when i'm doing shit wrong. So where can i buy maltodextrin? Would that shake be good pre workout? I like it for the calories. tryin to put 5-10 lbs by the summer. And there's nothin unhealthy......or should i just trash it?

If you're trying to gain weight, that would make a good meal at any time other than post-workout.

PW: 1 to 2 ratio of protein to carb. For protein, most use whey. For carb, you can either go all dex or all malt or 50/50 dex/malt.

No fat, fiber, lactose, and fructose postworkout. It slows down the absorption of protein by your muscles and THAT is bad.

1. what are good sources of dextrose and maltodexterin.
2. Does a bananna really spike insulin that much (I have read somewhere that it doesn't)? I only ask b/c sometimes I throw in a bananna in a breakfast shake for some potassium/nutrients.

Easiest source of dextrose might actually be common candies (smarties in the states, rockets in canada - those things are pure dextrose). You can also commonly find dextrose powder being sold in wine making stores, or at places that sell bulk baking goods (in Canada we have a store called Bulk Barn). Dextrose is also refered to in some places as "corn sugar".

Maltodextrin is harder to find, and you might try looking online for that.

No, I think what Pintoca was saying is that bananas are NOT a good source of insulin spiking carbs.

the best source of dextrose is dextrose lol. You can get it at most bulk food stores. Ask for corn sugar (common name for dextrose). I cant find maltodextrin around here so i go pure dextrose.
