Felt pop in chest when squatting!!!!

I'm fucking dying here bros. I was squatting today and it was my last set. I had the bar across the back of my shoulder blades (powerlifting squat), and i lifted the bar off the rack and bammm. I felt this little pop in my upper chest about an inch below my collar bone. I did finish my set but after it i felt like shit. I tried stretching it out and it worked a little. Then i tried to get back into the rack and just squat the bar to see if it still hurt with that postion and it did, bad. My whole program is based on squats and explosive lifts (ie. power cleans and snatch). What the hell am i supposed to do now??? and right in the middle of a cycle. Any ways to cure this fast??? Ice or heat??? HELP!!!

I haven't brushed up on anatomy in many years, but I'll give it a shot...
You say an inch below you collar bone...well you have two and they span about 4-6 inches from the centre of your chest to the acromium, not really attached to a hard surface like the humerus and forearms...anyway the pop could be a lot of things.

A common pop I hear in my shoulder/chest...especially when my chest is in a stretched position, as you describe...If you are talking about a pop in the centre of your chest it could be your sternum, YES, your sternum is jointed and you can hear a pop there.

Ah screw it, you'll get some A & P guys that will be more help.

See an ortho or chiro, both can perform orthopedic diagnosis testing to narrow the problem down a bit.

Good luck.

Do you think it could be very serious, like that i would be out a couple weeks or do you think it's probably just a strain or pull??? I know you're not a doc, but i'm just asking for the hell of it.

I'd say, give it a few days, see how it feels. If it worsens or makes "noise" often, impairs your ROM, see a doc. If it seems ok, then work through ROM slowly until you feel comfortable.

i dont' know, almost every time, during my first rep, of my first heavy set on flat bench, of every workout, i hear a pop. but it don't hurt. the first time it happened, however, it did hurt for a couple of days. i think it's just rib adjusting its position in the sternum. dont' worry too much about it, i'd bet that it'll get better quickly.

Their is a small joint that connects your collar bone to your rib cage. I've had the same thing happen not too long ago. I went to the Doctor and he said that I had jammed my collar bone into that joint. That's where the popping noise comes in. What can he do? Nothing, he said that it takes time to heal. The only thing that I could do was take Ibuprofen and do Ice therapy. It healed after 5 weeks. Never happened again.

your heart exploded bro, j/k.
on a serious note i think you should take it easy until the pain subsides, if it takes longer than a few days see the doc.
